Silent Hill 2 Screenwriter Sentenced to a Year in Jail

Just two weeks ago it was announced that screenwriter Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida had signed up to return for Silent Hill 2. If the production is going to stick with Avary, however, they may have to wait a while as the Oscar-winning Pulp Fiction writer has just been sentenced to a year in jail for causing a fatal traffic crash in Southern California. He's also received five years of probation.

Avary pleaded guilty in August to gross vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving for the 2008 crash that killed a passenger in Avary's Mercedes in Ventura County. Authorities say Avary's car was traveling at more than 100 mph when it crashed into a telephone pole.

Avary's wife was ejected from the vehicle and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Avary, who co-wrote the screenplay for Robert Zemeckis' Beowulf, was also attached to direct and write the video game adaptation Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

man you aren't lying!! if your driving drunk, and you kill someone in an accident, i thought it was a 1st degree felony. he's only getting a year?? he's lucky as hell.

anyway, i didn't even know they were making a silent hill 2. the first one is one of the very very few good video game movies.

Such mixed feelings. I've always heard of Avery as a good guy, and he's clearly talented-- but ending a life because of drunk driving, and only getting a year for it? Sheesh.

As a person who is about to go to court for drunk driving, I find this BS!!! If a normal citizen killed someone they would to federal prison for a lot longer than a f'n year. Our justice system is so screwed.

Silent Hill did suck..but it was still better than the rest of the game adaps..and Gi Joe, and Friday The 13th!

Silent hill has to one of the best adapted video game movies so far, I say bring on the second when he gets his ass out of jail, maybe this time will give him more idea's for the movie.

it stuck fairly close to the games. the games sucked, but only because the gameplay sucked, the story was very cool. and considering the rest of the video game movies to come out?? this was golden. it was dark, gory, and creepy. plus the monsters and shit were pretty cool looking. i don't see how a horror fan wouldn't like it. especially with the crap they pass as horror these days.
