just beat this game yesterday and it was ok and i give it a 8.0 out of 10.
The Bad and Good things: Some parts are way too easy to beat, you have alot of repetitive enemies throughout the game but on the flipside some of the things you can do to certain enemies was amazing, though NO WHERE NEAR God Of War. In terms of upgrades, you wont be able to get all of the unholy and Holy upgrades by the end of the game but alot of the things you get are crazy!!!! the Scythe is your primary weapon through the whole game and you can upgrade it by acquiring "relics" from different beasts you absolve....consider the relics like FFVII materia if you will and the max level on each relic you can gain is 3. you pretty much equip it and fight your way through enemies and you start to gain points to level it up to max which i thought was pretty cool.
The enemies can be very very repetitive but still pose a threat and still give a certain level of enjoyment when you're fighting them. Of course as you delve deeper into the newer circles of hell, different enemies show up and the older ones pretty much have an "off-color" set and are a tad bit harder but still fun to kill em all.
The timed sequence system of buttons like GOW is in DI but after the first circle of hell, you know them by memory. depending on the enemy, you're either gonna do one or the other button sequences and he done the same "action finishing moves" with it which makes it boring. Only difference is when you're fighting a circle of hell boss does the pattern switch..but if you die on that boss and fight again the pattern stays the same. But dont get me wrong it's fun nonetheless to watch Dante rip off heads and tear body torso's into two and it's cool to make a choice of when to punish or absolve someone that's been sent to hell, its interesting.
the Blood and Gore is definitley top notch and i would say no one under the age of 18 should play this game because of the severe graphic nature of this game. Just to give you an example but not to spoil it, there are these chics in the circle of lust that pull out a dildo looking claw out of their "you know what" trying to kill you while the other one is "feeling her self up" trying to seduce you and bring you close to kill you lol! It was exciting lol!
the story is solid and the cinematic features are very different and great to follow along with. All and all though by the time i beat it I traded it in because i didnt feel there wass nothing else for me to do....well there was but i didnt want run through the same ol demons again and do anytype of co-ops with it because i lost interest..QUICK! there's supposed to be something comming out where you can play as kinda like an angel in co-op mode but i didnt bother to look any further into it because i was already bored of it.
But not to deter anyone from playing this game, if you like the blood-gore, Hellish, demon killing, decent storyline type of game then this is for you, if not, then save your money on this game and wait for GOW3 to come out.

I love this game and hated many reviews comparing it to GOW. Some of us only have a 360 and dont play GoW also its a hack and slash so really how original can you be? I thought the story was good and I had fun with it. I played it through with only putting skills into Holy so I might try unholy now. Overall its a good game not great. But it entertained me and thats the point :)

POSSIBLE SPOILERS< SO DONT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED!!!

played thru dantes inferno over the weekend!
while im not a big fan of god of war 1 or 2, 3 is going to shit bricks on everything, that being said, dantes inferno was awesome all the way to the end! but it was still a direct rip off of the god of war franchise. from the climbing mechanics the puzzles and the attacks and upgrades, this game had god of war written all over it. however as i was regretfully forced to read the inferno in college, i was quite pleased to see how the game managed to fit in all of the different circles of hell and the sins that went along with them. not all were represented however for that would probably take forever, as there was a crapload of personal torments not mentioned in the game that were in the book.and as for the malbolsia's toward the end, repetitive doesnt even begin to describe them(deadline must have been looming!!lol)
anyways the enemies were cool as hell, especially the chick with the snake emerging from her death hole that tries to suck u in , still got the creeps from that one!very pleased as well to see we may be getting a purgatory treatment and hopefully or eventually a 3rd act, in heaven,( the divine comedy is three books inferno, purgatorio and paradiso - hell, purgatory and heaven respectively) as this would pose the greatest challenge for the design team( i mean just what kind of baddies are in purgatory? or heaven for that matter) hopefully they can design bad-ass angels or some such not unlike the oddities from bayonetta(with her peanut sized head and massively overproportioned legs!! lol)
all around very cool game, the cerberus monster was sick as can be, and satans character model was bad as hell too. all in all overlooking the rip-offs from god of war and devil may cry, this game gets a big 10-4!!!

p.s. the boatman crossing the river styx was the biggest surprise and best twist on that character ive ever seen, hes an actual boat-man, and massive at that!!! lol and very cool to see references on how when jesus died on the cross he actually descended into hell to scoop his homies, moses, noah, abraham etc. not many people realise they all went to hell when they died, because baptism wasnt invented until jesus time, by his cuz john the baptist. see, if your not baptised you cant get into heaven so jesus went on a rescue mission to scoop his homeboys, who passed un-baptised years before he existed, not unlike chuck norris in missing in action!!!!

also,
the cgi cutscenes were indeed some of the best most realistic looking cgi to date(for a game anyway)
the small fuzzy hairs you can see as the light crests over the skin on faces and arms etc. the best video game boobies ever put on wax, and the backrounds and scenery within them were some of the most breathtaking vistas ever seen in a game period.

ive played both god of war 1 and 2 and while genuinely they are good games using epic mytholigy they are quite similar to dantes inferno, but as youve stated before it is a hack and slash and isnt really easy to deviate from the original recipe layed out by devil may cry, gow's, ps3's heavenly sword, and the like. in heavenly sword u get to play as the other character chick(not sure of name) and that was truly a first(the fps elements using a crossbow)a very refreshing break from the base gameplay. if more hack and slash games could utilize different structures like that , they wouldnt all feel so similar.
as for gow3 i dont believe its out yet, so obviously i couldnt even use as a comparison, what i said was while im not a HUGE fan of 1 or 2(though at the time they were epic)graphics wise compared to todays games they look archaic. i believe gow 3 will shit bricks on any previous game, especially seeing some footage on the tubes the levels are humungous and the graphics look cutscene quality.
but the artwork on the enemies and characters in dantes inferno's levels and backrounds are astounding!!

more more more, keepem coming!!!

It is quite easy to compare this game to God of War because of the obvious similarities. However, after playing this, I felt compelled to go back and play God of War collection. I must say Dante's Inferno, though not bad, can't even compare to God of War. Even the first two God of War games blow this game away. They are just way better for many reasons. I have also just beaten God of War III, and as far as I'm concerned after playing that epic masterpiece, Dante's Inferno does not even really exist. Sorry to all the Fans of this game, but the differences between GOWIII and Dante's Inferno are so vast. I hate to hear this "God of War clone" thing...it just does not measure up. Do yourself a favor and Get God of War III if you are debating between the two. Dante's Inferno will drop in price here soon.
