For weeks, we've been hearing rumors about a new Marvel game coming from 2K and strategy developer Firaxis Games (best known for XCOM). During the Gamescom 2021 kickoff event, Opening Night Live, the highly-anticipated game was officially revealed. Marvel's Midnight Suns is a new Tactics RPG set in the Marvel universe.
The game is obviously inspired by the Midnight Suns storyline from the early '90s, and will allow you to play as The Hunter, a fully customizable character fighting alongside Marvel's Iconic heroes, like Iron Man and Captain Marvel, to defeat Lilith before the Darkhold is complete. One of the cool things about Midnight Suns is that it shines some light on Marvel's lesser-known supernatural characters, which is a big reason why Firaxis chose this storyline.
"It's a story that hasn't been told in 30 years now... since the comic came out," Firaxis creative director Jake Solomon told IGN. "It gave us two things, right? One, it gave us a new villain, which I love Lilith as a villain. It gave us all these new characters to talk about, some supernatural characters that I think players won't be as familiar with. And then of course the more popular characters we could pull down to this sort of darker side of the Marvel universe."
Some of the confirmed heroes include Ghost Rider, Dr. Strange, Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Magik, Nico, Captain Marvel, and Blade. As Solomon revealed, one of the major storyline threads will tackle the inherent conflict between the Avengers and some of the supernatural heroes. And then, of course, the X-Men will add another layer to the story.
Gameplay for Marvel's Midnight Suns is set to be revealed on September 1, but it was confirmed to be a "single-player focused experience" with many elements that XCOM fans will find familiar. Marvel's Midnight Suns is slated to launch in March 22 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
