James McAvoy Hints At The Wanted Sequel

James McAvoy Hints At The Wanted Sequel

We already know director Timur Bekmambetov wants to make one, but we haven't heard any more on it for a while. Now McAvoy, who played the lead in Wanted, hints that Bekmambetov is rounding up the troops..

While at a new years eve party, the actor got a call from Bekmambetov..

"I got a call from Timur just as the bell struck 12," McAvoy said in a group interview on Friday in Beverly Hills, where he was promoting The Last Station. "He said, 'I will call you in two weeks and maybe have something to tell you then.'"

"[Bekmambetov] basically said, 'Happy new year,'" McAvoy said. "I was like, 'Are you calling me about the film or for New Year?' So I don't know what's happening."

Bekmambetov has already stated that if he were to make a sequel he would bring back Angelina Jolie's character, Fox, despite her having half her head blown off at the end of the first film. Wanted had its moments but I didn't like it at all. And it wasn't even because of the drastic changes it made to Mark Millar's comics, it just wasn't a very good movie. I couldn't care less about a sequel. How bout you guys?

Other than McAcoy's performance, Wanted was a pretty bad movie. Which is a shame, it could have been pretty good. If they at least stuck with the source material.

Wanted was pretty much pure crap, and the movie had enough closure that they don't need a sequel. Just let this die.

Wanted was awesome! Apparently, it's not much like the graphic novel that it's based on, but a cool movie in it's own right. I hope that a sequel will be made, although the ending of the first was pretty complete

If ever there was a "leave your brain at the door" movie, it was Wanted. So, with that being said why wouldn't they make another one including Jolie. Bring back Morgan Freeman as well

While I enjoyed Wanted I don't see a reason for a sequel to be made. There was nothing at the end that even hinted at the possibliity of a sequel.

it sickens me to know that this movie made enough to warrant a sequel. this is a classic example of TOO MUCH change. when something stops being what it was originally, then it has changed too much.

This comic series was genius, a real and fresh take on the genre. The fact that this film even has the same name is an embarassment.

Jolie could be naked the whole time and it would still be terrible.

Wanted is not worthy of a sequel. The movie was okay, but nothing to talk about.

I can imagine the casting call now

Bekmambetov: Angelina, I want to do Wanted 2 and I'd like you to be in it.

Angelina Jolie: How will that work? I'm dead!

Bekmambetov: Well, "Fox" will be a brain-dead, masochistic sex bomb. Can you play that?

Angelina Jolie: I'll need to do some character research.

Bekmambetov: Why? You have a mirror don't you?

McAvoy was the best thing about Wanted, I actually didn't mind the movie, probably because I never read the comics, but I wouldn't be upset if they didn't make a sequel. Count me as indifferent.

I really disliked Wanted. To me it was one of those movies that you just keep watching expecting it to get better. Then it ends and your asking yourself WTF?
EphPhaThaINC
EphPhaThaINC - 1/11/2010, 1:35 PM
Wanted was this generation's Matrix. I mean the big scene where Wesley storms the Fraternity mill in the climax was proof of that. Which I loved that scene. It was better and no unnecessary bullet time moments milked to death. Truly was the highlight of the movie and made it worth watching.

I myself enjoyed the movie. I haven't read the comics but then again when are fan boys and girls ever going to be happy over something that Hollywood does? You just gotta shrug your shoulders and accept the fact that it was a fun, enjoyable movie, and if you happen to see something that they may screw up on just remind yourselves...

"ITS IN ANOTHER REALITY."

That should usually save you some headache later on and keep you all from bitching about comic book adapted movies.

Now I did like Wanted and I am cool with a sequel except for the fact that Timur is wanting to bring back Jolie. I loved Fox and she helps make that movie. I just don't like the idea of directors bringing back actors even if they happen to die in the previous films. There had better be a damn good reason for doing something that somewhat makes it believable for them to return.

Fox did have a bullet go through her head and she did it all to protect Wesley from the other assassins plus she was a firm believer in "kill one, save a thousand." methos behind her character that she so poetically in her back story.

Anyway that is just my thoughts on it. I'll shut up now.

Eph, I have to disagree this being this generation's Matrix. Matrix is still this generation's Matrix. Wanted did not do any breakthroughs in CGI or anything revolutionary or inspiring, it was muddy crap with bullets that apparently can make a 360 degree turns.

@ eph

gotta agree with stumblin, lol. this can't be compared to the matrix in any way

Just watched the Jolie death scene on youtube and I was pretty disappointed. The way you guys were talking about her having 'her head blown off', I was expecting just that. Instead, the bullet enters her head with a whisper and she's gone. I have to assume the rest of the movie is equally as lame.

Ooh this movie was a treat for me. I hope they make a sequel.

Some people may hate me for this but I liked the movie better.

I mean they really had nothing to do with each other. Just the same names. I didn't love reading about supervillins who kill people.
