Today we received a new look at Wonder Woman from the character's upcoming standalone movie which is currently filming in London and set for release on June 23, 2017. The upcoming film is being directed by Patty Jenkins and recounts the character's origin. Whether the film uses the traditional origin of Dianna being sculpted from clay, or chooses to use the more modern origin of her being the illegitimate daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, remains a mystery. Regardless of which Wonder Woman origin they choose to use, one thing that will be different is the setting of the film. At least a portion of the movie will be set during Wolrd War I, in contrast to Batman v Superman's taking place in modern day. According to Gadot, this difference in the two films time periods result in a very different version of the Amazonian princess.
"There's only so much I can say. But ... the Wonder Woman you're going to see in "Batman v Superman" is a very different Wonder Woman that you will see in the standalone movie. The Wonder Woman that you see in "Batman v Superman" is a woman who has been around, and she's very experienced. She understands a lot about man. Whereas in the standalone movie we are telling the grown-up story. Diana becoming Wonder Woman, and this was a story that was never told before. When she starts this journey, she's very pure. She's more naive, she's this young idealist who does not really understand the complexities of life and the complexities of men."
