The character of Steve Trevor came to the publics attention when he was brilliantly played by Star Trek and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse actor, Chris Pine. The character was sadly killed off in the first Wonder Woman movie (2017) for him to later be resurrected for the film's sequel, Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).
If you do not want to know what happens in Wonder Woman 1984 and how Steve Trevor returns and what his potential future in the cinematic universe might be, stop reading now! Still here? Let's get into this.
Wonder Woman 1984 brings back the fan favourite character of Steve Trevor. The character made his first appearance in the 1941 comic book, All-Star Comics No.8. This introduction into the comics was somewhat similar to what we got to see in the first Wonder Woman movie. In the comics, Steve (an Air Force officer during World War II) crashlands his plane on Paradise Island, the home of the Amazons. He was helped by Diana who followed him back to earth where she would become Wonder Woman. Steve is sadly killed at the end of the first Wonder Woman movie where he sacrifices himself by shooting the gas canisters on a plane to save Diana and the rest of his WWII team.
His return in the sequel was widely questioned by fans as nobody could work out how he could still be alive in 1984 and not aged a single day. His return was the result of a wish Diana made whilst in the possession of a magical ancient stone. Steve's fate is yet again a sad one as his return means that Wonder Woman's powers are starting to weaken. Steve has to persuade Diana to take back her wish, leaving Steve once again dead and Diana reunited with her powers.
Is this the end of Steve Trevor in the DCEU or will we be seeing him again in the future?
There has been no word on his return from any cast or crew just yet but that doesn't stop us fans from speculating about the future of our favourite pilot. In the comics, Steve has been killed off and resurrected a number of times meaning that an adaptation of one of these stories might make its way onto the big screen. Steve was once resurrected by the Greek Goddess, Aphrodite. Being the Greek Goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite was initially the patron Goddess of the Amazons, though, in post-crisis continuity, she shares that role with Athena and several other gods.
The return of Steve might not even happen in a Wonder Woman movie. There are a number of Superheros making their appearance in The Flash solo movie, set to be released in 2022, so there stands a good chance we might see him appear once again. Elements of the Flashpoint storyline will be incorporated into The Flash meaning there is a good chance that we might see a different version of Steve Trevor from a completely different timeline and Earth.
One fan theory suggests that Steve Trevor would go on to be a future version of the Green Lantern after his death with a Green Lantern ring finding it's way to him. This would be an interesting turn to the character as seeing him also superpowered alongside Diana and the rest of the Justice League would bring a new dimension to their relationship. Sticking with the idea that he might appear in The Flash movie for a moment, we might see a new Steve Trevor that is a Post-Crisis version of the character. In the second volume of Wonder Woman comics from 1985, all the characters were re-introduced and Steve Trevor was now a much older character and was significantly older than Diana. The two of them never had a romantic relationship. Later it is revealed that this version of Steve Trevor is the son of a woman called Diana Rockwell Trevor, a hero to the Amazons.
So what do you think, do you think we will see Steve Trevor/Chris Pine in the DCEU anytime soon? Let me know.
