WONDER WOMAN 1984 Will Be Pushed To December If TENET Does Wind Up Being Delayed

All eyes are now on Tenet to see if Christopher Nolan's latest is released to theaters as planned this July, but if WB is forced to delay the film, Wonder Woman 1984 and Dune may also be pushed back...

As things stand, Tenet is still set to hit theaters on July 17th. However, there's a decent chance it will end up being delayed, and if that happens, it will most likely impact the rest of Warner Bros.' 2020 tentpole releases.

According to a new report from Deadline, the studio will require at least 80% of the world's theaters to be open, including those in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, for Tenet to make its scheduled July bow. This would allow Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller to release in 3,500 domestic theaters and over 30,000 screens worldwide. If that doesn't happen, Tenet will move to Wonder Woman 1984's August 14th spot, pushing Patty Jenkins' DC Comics sequel to an undisclosed date in December.

Though the trade doesn't specify, this would almost certainly be the date currently occupied by Dune (December 18th), which would shift Denis Villeneuve's highly-anticipated adaptation to next year.

Warner Bros. won't be the only studio closely monitoring the theater situation, as Disney will also be forced to reschedule Black Widow and Mulan.

Right now, all we can do is wait and see. We should have a better idea of how things are looking over the next couple of weeks.

Come on, Nolan. Don't be an ass. Everyone wants to see it, but not at the risk of lives.

@Dredd97 - does he even have control that in this situation? Seems above his paygrade

@TakesTwoToTorgo - I imagine he has some say, but not final. I could be wrong. Who knows how it works regularly, and he might be different because of how good his work record is with WB

@Necropolitan -
Nolan thinks he's still the prom queen of Hollywood.

@Battabing - What do you mean "still"? His popularity hasn't exactly waned in the last few years.

@Battabing - Prom queen? Do you know how much of the studio's money he used to make this movie? If it "fails", it effects his career considerably. There are many facets to consider, and considering it's several weeks out still, there is no immediate rush to decide. I think they should just buckle down and do it. But if things with this virus drastically subside, Tenet in theaters in July would be great for the studio, great for movie theaters, and a great relief of enjoyment for many of the county's people.

@marvel72 - hey you! Angela White worked hard for that crown! Nolan’s gotta put in the effort first but we’ll see

Most theaters won't be open by July, especially the big ones: L.A., NYC, Atlanta, Chicago.
WBnis trying to decide if July is the best spot for Tenet. Nolan wants it there no matter what. He's not the king of Hollywood nor its Messiah. Studios are gonna do what's best for their bottom line.

@Battabing - Obviously he would want the movie released at its original release date without an ounce of trouble (what film doesn't want that?), but you're speaking on Nolan's behalf very presumptuously

December is already crowded as is, I think Wonder Woman would be better off in early October, that's looking fairly empty at the moment.

I really hope Tenet stays in July.

Nolan + quantum physics that mess with time manipulation = most anticipated film of the year.

You can bet I will be at the cinema in July, even if the screening is empty.

@kylo0607 - delaying it won’t be the end of the world, considering where are living during the end of the world.

I told y'all Wonder Woman 1984 was gonna end up taking that Dune slot. I prefer it just move to 2021, but WB seems to think that's close enough.

This winter is going to be great for VOD. We're probably going to be smack in the middle of COVID-19 Part Deux: Revenge of the 'Rona and studios are going to want to recoup their money the best way they know how. Sucks for all of the afflicted, but great for me and my home entertainment center.

Plot Twist: Nolan releases it in July, but on VOD.

@KWilly - Nolan would burn the film stock before letting that happen

This is all things we already knew except for this quote right here: "And we hear that Tenet, which is already finished, is as amazing as Inception"
Get hyped for TENET, out in 202_
