Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins confirmed that she's working on a third solo outing for Diana Prince during the first DC FanDome last year, but details have been few and far between since. There's been some speculation that Warner Bros. might have put the project on the back-burner, and star Gal Gadot has now provided an update on when production is expected to commence.

While speaking to InStyle, the Red Notice actress revealed that the script for Wonder Woman 3 is currently being worked on, and filming will "probably start in a year and a half or so." That's obviously far from a specific timeframe, but it does at least suggest that Jenkins and the studio have a plan in place.

Plot details are currently non-existent, but we do know that original small-screen Diana Prince, Lynda Carter, will return as Asteria after her small role in WW84. Jenkins has previously indicated that she was working from an early idea for a third film, but after the decidedly mixed response to the last movie, we wouldn't be surprised if the studio asked Jenkins to go back to the drawing board on the story outline.

In the same interview, Gadot gave an update on the upcoming Cleopatra movie.

“I can’t reveal a lot, but I can tell you that we’re going to celebrate the Cleopatra story,” she said about her next project, which recently saw original director Patty Jenkins step away and Kari Skogland take over. “We’re going to show not just how sexy and appealing she was, but how strategic and smart, and how much impact she had and still has on the world we’re living in today.”

I dont see Gal playing the character in her 40s (she is already 36, if they start shooting in 2024, we are looking at a 2026 release...not counting the pandemic delays!).

@TheHumanSpider2 - Why, every other actor does

@TheHumanSpider2 -

Wait, whaaaat?

Gal is still young and 40 is still young in the modern age.

You should be more voncerned with the shitty writing and directing from the second film bleeding into the third film not gals age🤦

@AmazingFILMporg - These are physically demanding roles, and Hollywood has a tendency to not have women over 40 in action roles (there are exceptions, but that's what they are, exceptions).
Obviously, Gal is the least of the IP problems after WW84.

@Havenless - every?

@TheHumanSpider2 -

Its Hollywood. Its all fake, man. Linda Hamilton kicked ass in dark fate and she is old. The movie suvked but she was awesome.

@AmazingFILMporg - Hollywood probably thinks that movie bombed because "Hamilton is too old".
That is the way they think.

Lynda Carter’s role is definitely what interests me the most about this movie.

WW84 gotta be one of the most universally disliked big budget films of the last few years, wonder how big the drop for this is gonna be financially from the first one. More than 50%?

I wonder if this will be the last outing for her?
She definitely has leveraged this role into a bigger career path.

I’m intrigued to see who they pick up next to replace her.

@Cbmfilmjunkie - Maybe but I think it’s such a gravy train that unless the 3rd one also get bad overall reviews and doesn’t make money it’ll make sense to keep going. She has a lot of sponsorship and modeling gigs but she really isn’t doing that many film projects notable enough to dip out and make franchises out of.

Oh Gal, she’s really deluded herself into thinking she’s a box office draw. No talent, not even a minor amount of charisma. I don’t think anyone’s really waiting for a Cleopatra movie and any studio willing to spend money on what would be another mediocre superficial telling of that story, especially with such a boring lead, would be insane.

@John75 - Villeneuve was gonna do a Cleopatra film but that one’s stuck in development hell (or quietly died)

Im good. They should have built on the Greek Mythology in a modern setting similar to Azarello’s New 52 run, but Patty seems to really only care about the Linda Carter tv show instead of comics of Greek lore. I don’t think there’s been as much of a downfall for me where a character had one of the strongest opening movies and then totally killed my interest with the second one. Usually it’s the first one is ok and the sequel is make or break. It’s really odd the way WW84 turned out but I really think Patty just really doesn’t get the property and just made minor adjustments to the largely formed first movie. Looking forward to the Wonder Woman game from the Shadow of Mordor team though
