Fans that have seen Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman can agree that one of the best and most memorable moments of the film was when Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) began telling a young Diana the story of how the Amazons were created, and how Ares brought down the Gods of Olympus.

What made this particular scene stand out was the use of beautiful paintings that can be seen coming to life as Hippolyta recounted the story, similar to that of Jor-El's history lesson of Krypton from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

Now, artist Houston Sharp, one of the many talented artists who worked on creating those magnificent paintings, has decided to share all the artwork featured in the scene, as well as those that didn't make the cut. The paintings showcase Zeus with the other gods on Mt. Olympus, the creation of the Amazons, humanity's betrayal, Ares killing the other gods, and the creation of Themyscira.

Here is what Sharp had to say about working on Wonder Woman:

I had the pleasure and honor of working with Patty Jenkins and her team to create the animated painting at the beginning of Wonder Woman. It was a huge undertaking, but I had a small team of super-talented artists to help finish it on time, and Patty & Co. were very supportive along the way.

Each panel was painted separately, and stitched together into one massive painting. We tried achieving a classical oil painting look, while working in a way that was easy for the animators to work with (which meant keeping everything on their own layers, painting behind figures, etc.). It took a lot of planning and coordination between multiple artists, but it was well worth the challenge.

List of Artists involved with this painting: Houston Sharp, Igor Sid, Piotr Jablonski, Yuriy Chemezov, Roman Kupriyanov, Eve Ventrue, Max Schulz, Didier Konings, Raffy Ochoa.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Lucy Davis as Etta Candy, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. The film is directed by Patty Jenkins and written by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg.

Despite how cool it is, that scene really drags the most in the movie. And it is near the beginning so that doesn't help. Need better execution. Maybe a mixed of paintings and live action.

@21daysleft - Ares looked terrible to be honest. The way he was depicted on screen was not intimidating or menacing at all.

@SonOfAGif -
Agreed. What happened? In the action figures and promotions, he looked awesome. Did they change his appearance at the last minute?

@Darkknight2149 - that was a bit confusing because i love the movie but i was expecting to see that form of him not the one we got :/

@Darkknight2149 - I wasn't a fan of the action figure per say but after seeing what we got the action figure looked phenomenal.

When I think of the God of War I think of a menacing and brutal god who loves war and represents it. Ares in the film looked like he had a pet monkey named Darwin and a rebellious daughter named Debbie.

@SonOfAGif @knocturnalzen10 -
Yeah, I agree with both of you. I loved the film, but Ares was the only big problem I had. Given the promotions, this must have been something that was changed soon before the film was released.

Perhaps they'll explain it on the Blu-Ray special features (fingers crossed).

@SonOfAGif @darkknight2149- yes his look didn't suit the film imo especially even tho this movie's a prequel we just saw her fighting an making those most damage to Doomsday.... that was an imposing look you'd expect ares to have

@SonOfAGif - isn't that kind of the point tho? That he wasn't the crazy brute we thought he was

@Darkknight2149 - I like what we got a little more as it was a version of his comic armor

@Ha1frican - Me too. I just wish that his eyes glowed red before he put on his armor, and we never saw anything of his face, except his glowing red eyes, when he wore his helmet. I also think it would have been better if he had a goatee, like the Animated Series version of Ares.

@AMrSundayGirl58 - I liked the route they went with but seeing a younger version of his after being cast down have the moustache was just weird like he had a porn-stache on mount Olympus?! Lol

@JoeMomma29 -
The DCEU is two for two. Two good (Man of Steel and Wonder Woman) and the other two (Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad). That means Justice League can set the record straight for this universe.

I meant that there are two of each kind. But yes, it is two out of four.

Holy shit, is this beautiful.

This has "Zack Snyder" written all over it.

@DavidGray - Ikr? This is why it annoys me when people say "Warner Bros. should just fire Zack Snyder and let Patty Jenkins be the architect of the DCEU going forward." The movie wouldn't be what it is without Zack Snyder. He is just as instrumental to the film's success as Patty Jenkins.
DavidGray
DavidGray - 6/17/2017, 11:57 AM
@AMrSundayGirl58 - That's absolutely right.

Jenkins even said that the reason there are no deleted scenes is that this was the movie they set out to make in the first place.

And Snyder was very much a part of that.
