DARK PHOENIX Officially Fox's Final X-MEN Movie; Looks Like NEW MUTANTS Will Get A Theatrical Release

Last night at CinemaCon, we got official confirmation that Dark Phoenix would serve as a "sendoff" for Fox's X-Men franchise. Plus, it looks like New Mutants will get a theatrical release after all...

Disney's CinemaCon presentation made it very clear that Fox's roster of Marvel characters are now firmly part of the Mouse House, as the likes of Wolverine and Deadpool featured in the opening sizzle reel. We also got a look at Disney's full 2019 theatrical slate, and both Dark Phoenix and New Mutants are part of it.

Although plans could change, this obviously suggests that Josh Boone's teen X-Men movie will indeed make it to the big screen, despite numerous rumors to the contrary.

In addition, Disney chief Alan Horn officially confirmed that Dark Phoenix will be "the perfect sendoff for our X-Men team," and the "final chapter" for the X-Men world. So, while The Merc With a Mouth will more than likely continue to be played by Ryan Reynolds, it looks like the rest of the mutant characters will definitely be recast.

A new trailer for the Simon Kinberg-directed movie was also shown, and while it hasn't been released online, word is it was a notable improvement on the previous teasers.

If they intend to make Deadpool part of the MCU-- even in its own tiny, tiny little corner-- they're still gonna have to do a complete remodel of the world he was established in, no matter how much they end up poking fun at the whole merger.

I mean seriously... what does it mean for his supporting cast? From the Colossus' and Cable's to Dopinder's and Blind Al's? I have a feeling Ryan Reynolds would be unhappy if he couldn't bring anybody with him.

@Kurne - Doubt it. I don't think Feige will be managing the r-rated label, just like how he doesn't mange Marvel TV which is done by Jeff Loeb. Feige will probably not allow any interactions similar to the tv shows, nor acknowledge any events that will happen. I doubt we will see any MCU crossovers, but Feige just like the TV Shows will give the r-rated label any characters they aren't going to use like Blade, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, etc.

thought New Mutants was dead and buried.. thats a shame.

Guess Fox is going out on a nice low note with Xmen Last Stand 2.0

Can't wait for Lord Feige to get his hands on the Xmen and give them the justice they deserve

Regardless how I feel about Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, I still have to give credit to FOX. They paved the way for superhero movies today.

They didn't always get it right, but sometimes they'd have a nice spark of brilliance. Days of Future Past was their best example of that.

Anyway...

@KWilly - Yep, there are some good elements to the first trilogy, but the best the franchise ever got was that first Days of Future Past trailer. The movie itself didn't quite live up to the potential for me, but they came tantalizingly close to something really special with Charles/Charles.

The character study hinted at in that trailer: so good. It's just a shame so much of the movie was focused on the shoe leather instead.

But whatever highs it had, this franchise has been on the down swing for a while.

@KWilly - Blade did it for me.

I will NOT praise Fox just for being the first Studio to make a mediocre comic book franchise. I can't wait till this is all over.
