DARK PHOENIX Reshoots Reportedly Changed The Final Act's Setting From Outer Space...To A Train

There's not a lot of excitement surrounding Dark Phoenix and this probably isn't going to help. New details about the movie's reshoots have emerged and these changes to the climax are bound to disappoint.

Dark Phoenix finished shooting in October 2017 but it missed its 2018 release date due to Fox ordering extensive reshoots which have seemingly reshaped the entire film. Now, a new report from Entertainment Weekly (via Collider) reveals some surprising details about how the third act, in particular, ended up being reshaped by that additional photography.

Apparently, "the filmmakers decided to revamp the look of Phoenix in post (more 'cosmic' and less 'flamy,' according to the director) and shoot a new third act (instead of taking place in space, the climax finds all the X-Men kidnapped and on board a military train)."

To say that sounds underwhelming would be an understatement. After all, seeing the X-Men in space is vastly more exciting than the prospect of the team battling Jessica Chastain's unnamed alien and Dark Phoenix inside a train and amidst the wreckage when it inevitably crashes.

While no one knew this when Dark Phoenix was given the green light, the movie will serve as the finale to over twenty years of X-Men stories and it should be far more epic than this (just look at Avengers: Endgame). Instead, Simon Kinberg is expecting us to invest in an iteration of a character who we've only spent two movies with thus far.

@Reeds2Much - ...I do like train movies though. From Russia with Love. Double Indemnity. Trains are awesome settings to isolate the story from the rest of the world, sort of like a little pocket dimension once that whistle blows.

...Except for "Strangers on a Train". I read the description and thought: Hitchcock, trains, murder, awesome! But it's barely about trains at all. Should have been called "rich psycho carnival killer"... (I [frick]ing hate that movie.)

@Spock0Clock - did you see Midnight on the Orient Express? EXCELLENT!

And obviously, Snow Piercer as well. If I remember right, Nextflix is putting that one up sometime in May.

@Santanaonfire - I like the train part of Murder on the Orient Express, but I'm less enthusiastic about the mystery part.

The end of Fox-men is almost here and then we can get the X-Men. I for one can't wait to finally see the X-Men on screen.

I seems VERY appropriate for this whole series to end in a trainwreck.
