DARK PHOENIX Takes In Disappointing $5 Million From Thursday Night Preview Screenings

Although Dark Phoenix is expected to play slightly better overseas, the final X-Men movie is off to a pretty lousy start in North America after taking in just $5M from Thursday night preview screenings.

Box office projections were not good for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and the Simon Kinberg-directed mutant adventure has seemingly proved the analysts right with a disappointing $5 million haul from Thursday night preview screenings in The US.

While this isn't too bad - especially taking those wretched reviews into account - it is significantly lower than its predecessor's preview takings (Apocalypse made $8.2 million in 2016, and 2014's Days of Future Past took in $8.1 million).

Dark Phoenix is expected rake in around $50 million over the course of its opening weekend (it will probably do slightly better overseas), but Secret Life of Pets 2 will likely come out on top. Illumination and Universal's animated sequel made $2.3 million from Thursday screenings, so there's still a chance Fox's finale X-flick clinches it.

Tell us, do you plan on checking out Dark Phoenix in theaters, or have the reviews turned you off? Let us know t in the usual place..

These characters need a reboot bad. As much as I love the X-Men and for the most part have enjoyed the FOX movies for what they're worth, this needs to happen. RIP FOX-Men...

@LNBfett12 - i just hope Feige knows how badly we need them in something that resembles their look. Not a team look, i want each of the X-Men to look different.

I missed my screening, but I'm definitely gonna go see it. Critics shit on a lot of great movies.

Of course, they also get it right sometimes!

I can't tell if it's a worse summer quality-wise or box office-wise. I guess I'll go with the former for now, since there'll probably be more hits this summer than good movies

I skipped Apocalypse until my buddy showed it to me on Bluray. I stopped caring after DOFP.

@Sickness1985 - [frick]. True. I lost interest in the actual X-Men. I enjoyed Logan and Deadpool(s)

@Sickness1985 - I did. It was about a reluctant Logan saving Mutant kids. Just like in 4 other Fox-men films that ranged from crap to overrated.

It might not be as bad as The Kid Who Would Be King, though. We'll see.

@JoJo1982 - Nobody was checking for Hellboy. X-men should be Avengers status after 19 years. Instead it probably won't do better than Antman just like Ooze-pocalypse.

@Starscream24 - Seriously. Fox had the A-listers and shit the bed. Who would’ve thought beforehand an Ant-Man or GotG movie would out-perform an X-Men Apocalypse film?!
