Here is an excerpt from the report over at Variety's 'Showblitz'.

Studio is considering Jose Padilha, Doug Liman, Antoine Fuqua, Mark Romanek, Justin Lin, Gavin O’Connor, James Mangold and Gary Shore (largely a commercials director) for the Hugh Jackman-toplined actioner.

And here is a list of the directors along with the movies they're best known for.

Jose Padilha: Secrets of the Tribe and upcoming RoboCop reboot.

Doug Liman: Swingers, The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper, Fair Game.

Antoine Fuqua: Training Day, Tears of the Sun, King Arthur, Shooter and Brooklyn's Finest.

Mark Romanek: One Hour Photo, Never Let Me Go.

Justin Lin: Annapolis, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five.

Gavin O’Connor: Miracle, Warrior.

James Mangold: Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Knight & Day.

Gary Shore: As a commercials director, previous clients include Adidas, EMI, Warner Brothers, Vogue, Nokia, the Irish Government and the Montenegro Ministry of Tourism.

A fairly mixed bunch I think it's fair to say! Who do you think is most suited to the directors chair for The Wolverine? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

At the very least, why not replace Aronofsky with someone of, you know...a similar quality, instead of commerical directors?

Antoine Fuqua could director The Wolverine

@Viltrumite

i would not call Antoine Fuqua a commerical director

Doug Liman might be the best choice.
Bourne Identity was pretty brutal in the violence, heck it was probably even more violent than Origins. I wouldn't mind seeing Liman direct this film.

@jazzman,
Haha, nevermind, somehow I skipped over his name. If James Mangold is on his 3:10 to Yuma game, I'd like him, too.

It's tough, because a few of these guys have made some great movies along with some bloody awful ones! Fuqua or Romanek seem like the best choices, but it's hard to choose. (especially as I've not seen anything from Padilha for example)

Training Day was awesome, but that's it from Fuqua as far as I'm concerned. Lin? Ass. Lime...maaaaaaye, Mangold, a decent director no doubt. But Romanek's Never Let Me Go is a masterpiece, I don't know if he is right for Wolvie though.

It's a strange list overall.

Jose Padilha is a great brazilian director. Elite Squad 1 and 2 are amazing movies, full of political critic and great, brutal drama. I really recommend! Unfortunately they're not movies for a wide public, I mean, in a global scale. I'm shure that Padilha has the necessary talent to make an amazing RoboCop movie, but I don't believe he will have the time to work on Wolverine. It's a pity, really is.
