While promoting his film, 22 Jump Street, star Channing Tatum took a minute to speak with Latino Review about his upcoming role as Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse and possibly a standalone film. While not revealing any further details about the status of his contract negotiations, he does touch on learning Gambit's trademark Cajun accent. He promises to have a serious Cajun accent, and hopes to incorporate a creole patois, which he likens to a "Jedi mind trick" and says might require subtitles. Check him out in the video below:

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016.

People are so blinded by hate that they can't see that Tatum looks exactly like the character and loves him so much.

The dude is a good actor in the hands of a good director.

Maybe they can convince Phil Lord and Chris Miller or even Edgar Wright! to come on board Gambit.

I hated this casting at first, but the more I look at him the more he looks like Gambit to me. Hope he does well.

You guys think he's gonna be a total reboot of the character or he's the same one from Origins just with a different face?

I hope this rocks.

Like how he talks about going ham with the accent.

Unfortunately I don't think, Gambit can hold down a franchise by himself. And I don't trust, Fox for shit.

Gambit sucks as a character. I'm stunned anyone thinks he could sustain an entire film. This will indeed be another Catwoman.

He better have his red and black eyes and that exact same outfit that is in that picture beside his.. Why? Cuz it really shouldn't be that hard to translate on film

Shitty characters deserve shitty actors. Tatum is perfect.

"This will be another Catwoman"

God I hope not! But I can see it being another, Green Lantern. Meaning it will flirt with being watchable.

@GL

I hunk it's going to be a reboot of the character. It seems like they're ignoring everything from Origins. Seeing that Singer wanted to introduce Gambit in X3 really has me excited to see how his version if the character will play a role in Apocalypse. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that the Gambit in Apocalypse might either be one of Apocalypse's horsemen or he'll probably be more like the anti hero we saw from the "Wolverine and the X-Men" cartoon.

A character, Fox can actually put leather on.

He'll probably rock a one piece leotard with a sleeveless vest. sigh.

"I salute any actor that can pull off a believable accent well."

Well, the only people who will know if he is truly successful with it are the true cajuns in that part of Louisiana and those familiar with the accent. The less legible he speaks the better. lol

My challenge is that he is one of those actors that just annoys me and I don't think he is that great of actor. Looks are secondary in this case. He will need to trim up to look the part though. He certainly doesn't look like Gambit in that video.

@ batz11

Only two good things about Catwoman.

Wow Halle Berry has played 2 of the top 10 female comics characters, both times a f*cking trainwreck! Shame....
