X-MEN Star Patrick Stewart Seemingly Teases Ian McKellen's Return As Magneto: "We Got Plans"

Patrick Stewart recently indicated that he may not be done as Charles Xavier just yet, and the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness actor has now suggested that Ian McKellen may also return.

Sir Patrick Stewart reprised his role as Professor Charles Xavier for a brief appearance in Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but we had all assumed it was a "one-and-done" return for that "Variant" of the iconic X-Men leader.

However, Stewart did recently reveal that he's been told to "stand by" when asked if we might see more of Professor X in the MCU, and the legendary actor has now seemingly suggested that an old friend might be joining him if and when he does show up again.

While speaking to ET, Stewart was asked if fellow X-Men veteran Sir Ian McKellen had any thoughts on his Doctor Strange 2 role.

"Actually, it went very well," the Star Trek Picard actor responded. "He did say something like ['Hey, I would've done this!'], yes that's true. But we're not done, Sir Ian and myself. We're... we got plans."

Now, Stewart didn't mention their X-Men roles specifically here, but it certainly sounds like he's hinting at Xavier and Magneto reuniting at some point in the future.

If so, we'd say the most likely projects to feature those characters would be Deadpool 3 and/or Avengers: Secret Wars, which has been rumoured to include appearances from a multitude of familiar faces from previous Marvel and 20th Century Fox properties.

What do you guys make of Stewart's comments? Would you like to see Xavier and Mags again one more time before younger actors are cast in the upcoming reboot? Be sure to share your thoughts down below.

@GhostDog - Stewart and McKellen just need to be in a zany British buddy comedy together.

@GhostDog - Was coming in to say exactly this. Really just want to see Magneto at his prime already. And would love to see him eventually lead the X-Men too. So much nuance and layers to the character that have yet to be explored. Truly one of the best all time Marvel characters.

@TheHumanSpider2 - no because for the few faults FoX-Men had, they pretty well adapted the characters and the best stories. What does MCU offer aside from somewhat comic books costumes? don't see it as much

@rkshuttleworth - You think any of this was planned? really? REALLY!?

@Dredd97 - The costumes (which will look absolutely ridiculous in actors as old as these) and interactions with other Marvel characters.
That's it.

My casting for MCU Magneto is Matthew Modine. He's got a really intimidating look to him, he can bring a sort of manipulative type of kindness to Erik similar to his role as Brenner in ST, he's 63 so he's old enough to fit the role but young enough to play the role for the next 10-15 years, and he just looks like the spitting image of Magneto from the comics.

@FilmGuy7878 - Great actor if you grew up in the 80s you just know.I love the outside the box thinking he would have never came to mind until ur comment.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/15/2023, 7:58 PM
@pitbull76 - Yeah, I just want him as Mags and Giancarlo Esposito as Xavier and that would be *chefs kiss*. I also want Polaris to play a big role in the X-Men side of things so we can get that father-daughter dynamic we missed out on in the Fox films as well as the dysfunctional relationship that is Alex/Lorna.

@FilmGuy7878 - I like ur thinking it sucks but I'm glad Kevin and the mcu are not rushing X-Men they really only have one chance to get it right can not Frick it up.Listen this is only my opinion but I am more excited for X-Men then I was for Avengers not to say I don't like them just have a more interest in X-Men and want to see them done right.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/16/2023, 8:13 AM
@pitbull76 - Same man, I'm actually way more of an X-fan then an Avengers fan and I soooooooo wanna see my mutants done right.
pitbull76
pitbull76 - 2/16/2023, 8:20 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - yes and it can all come together down the road with X-Men vs Avengers if the lead up is right.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/16/2023, 8:57 AM
@pitbull76 - AvX would be incredible if 1. like you said, if the lead-up is properly done and 2. it doesn't full on character assassinate Scott Summers like the comic did.
pitbull76
pitbull76 - 2/16/2023, 9:17 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - Better yet like fox did Cyclops in my opinion was never done right.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/16/2023, 9:19 AM
@pitbull76 - Yeah, the Fox films made a pussy out of Cyclops. He should be the charismatic, slightly overbearing field leader of the X-Men and Xavier's most loyal student and not a side character who gets cucked by Wolverine and cries over all of his telepath girlfriends.
pitbull76
pitbull76 - 2/16/2023, 10:17 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - Exactly you took the words out of my mouth what u describe is how I always have seen or pictured him.quick question in a perfect world who can you see playing him in the mcu?
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/16/2023, 10:23 AM
@pitbull76 - I honestly want Joseph Quinn as Scott (Stranger Things, Game of Thrones) if they want to skew a bit younger. He's built but very trim (hence Scott's nickname "Slim Summers"), he for sure has a confident and charming look to him but he could very well portray Scott's bottled up insecurities, it would be a very different role for him that would help separate him from Eddie Munson, and he just looks a lot like Scott from the comics.
pitbull76
pitbull76 - 2/16/2023, 10:29 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - Do not recognize the name but will definitely look him up.

Guy is awesome as Magneto, but Fassbender left me wanting to see more of a younger Magneto. Watching him hunt Nazis in First Class came off like something out of a Bond, and added an interesting layer to the character.
