Sir Patrick Stewart reprised his role as Professor Charles Xavier for a brief appearance in Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but we had all assumed it was a "one-and-done" return for that "Variant" of the iconic X-Men leader.
However, Stewart did recently reveal that he's been told to "stand by" when asked if we might see more of Professor X in the MCU, and the legendary actor has now seemingly suggested that an old friend might be joining him if and when he does show up again.
While speaking to ET, Stewart was asked if fellow X-Men veteran Sir Ian McKellen had any thoughts on his Doctor Strange 2 role.
"Actually, it went very well," the Star Trek Picard actor responded. "He did say something like ['Hey, I would've done this!'], yes that's true. But we're not done, Sir Ian and myself. We're... we got plans."
Now, Stewart didn't mention their X-Men roles specifically here, but it certainly sounds like he's hinting at Xavier and Magneto reuniting at some point in the future.
If so, we'd say the most likely projects to feature those characters would be Deadpool 3 and/or Avengers: Secret Wars, which has been rumoured to include appearances from a multitude of familiar faces from previous Marvel and 20th Century Fox properties.
What do you guys make of Stewart's comments? Would you like to see Xavier and Mags again one more time before younger actors are cast in the upcoming reboot? Be sure to share your thoughts down below.
