RUMOR: X-MEN '97 To Feature Emma Frost And More Classic Character; WHAT IF...? Season 3 Will Include [SPOILER]

A couple of interesting new X-Men '97 and What If...? season 3 rumours have found their way online today, revealing some of the characters we'll see in the former and an exciting team-up in the latter.

X-Men: The Animated Series first hit our screens way back in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was a hit and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates with comic book fans of all ages today.

We're not exactly surprised to see Marvel Studios revisit this animated reality in the upcoming Disney+ series X-Men '97, with the majority of the original cast back to pick up where the classic series left off. Now, we have details on some of the heroes and villains set to join them.

Echo is now just days away from premiering, but we know most of you are eager to learn when their first X-Men TV show will hit the streamer. A premiere date hasn't been revealed yet, but we do have some new character details (via Toonado.com).

Scooper @CanWeGetToast reveals that Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and Moira MacTaggert are among the characters we'll spend time with in the second half of X-Men '97's first season. We'll also see Genosha attempt to join the United Nations in the fifth instalment, "Remember It," with the heroic Magneto leading the charge.

There's also a minor What If...? season 3 update. According to this same leaker, both Captain Carter and Kahhori will be key figures in that next batch of episodes as part of a new team of (presumably Multiversal) heroes.

Recently, a full list of episode titles for the 10-episode first season of X-Men '97 was revealed:

To Me, My X-Men
Mutant Liberation Begins
Fire Made Flesh
Motendo
Remember It
Bright Eyes
Shine With Strength Reborn
Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1
Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2
Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3

Several cast members have already confirmed they're working on more episodes of X-Men '97, including Rogue actress Lenore Zann. Last August, we asked her about stepping back into the recording booth to play the fan-favourite hero again.

"It's fantastic to get this opportunity to re-inhabit the character of Rogue who is my favorite character I’ve played to date," she said, careful not to give too much away. "I’m grateful to the fans for their loyalty and support for our original series - and for my performance - which has made this possible."

"And I’m also grateful to Beau DeMayo and Charley Feldman from X-Men '97 for insisting I come back as Rogue."

As for what we can expect from the powerful mutant in this revival, Zann teases: "As usual, Rogue will go through a lot in X-Men '97. Like me, she’s a passionate woman who can’t help wearing her heart on her sleeve. So, buckle up for a wild ride!"

X-Men '97 is currently scheduled to premiere on Disney+ later this year.

I thought for sure Remember It would be a Gambit centric episode. Maybe with so few episodes they're steering away from single character focus such as x-ternally yours and repo man.

Does anyone find it odd we haven't seen Shang chi nor capt marvel in what if season 2?
Add she hulk. These are characters I want to see interact with other characters.

Throw Kate in there too
Hope season 3 delivers

@Vigor - yeah tbh s2 wasnt my favorite despite some good episodes.

While I enjoyed the carter/widow episode, Nebula’s, and a couple others, I want to see more stories about people like shang chi, not people like hela, even if blanchett voices lol

And the Khahorhi episode didnt do it for me either. I never really mind the woke stuff at all but the whole episode was about a no one in the mcu instead of someone who matters or already existed (ya know the premise of what if), and it really felt like some serious DEI pandering to me.

@Vigor - Not realy as they would have been writing the stories for What if before they had their first liva action appearance. That isn't to say I wasn't curious if they would feature any but does not surprise me to mostly sticking to those introduced during the Infinity Saga.

@Apophis71 - good point

@Vigor - It’s because they pitched all thirty episodes before phase 4 started. They’re just releasing them as three seasons.

@ReverseFlasher - I have to disagree, it was far better than season 1, and Hela was the best episode.

@Vigor - Hrm quite like if Kingpin used Kate as his soldier, or Shang chi stayed with wenwu.

We saw Emma Frost and Sebastian Dhaw on a character sheet of villains for the show when it was announced, they’re not news. You don’t need to make an article about every post CanWeGetSomeToast makes.

also copying and pasting your own article from another website here is extremely [frick]ing lazy journalism. Especially if you’re saying that’s the source of your news for this scoop. Pull it together

Fun factoid—Tracey Moore, who voiced Emma in the ‘92 series, was also the first dub voice for the title character of Sailor Moon.

@FlixMentallo21 - that is a fun fact, thanks for sharing!

@Evansly - No problem. An additional factoid is that the VA who replaced Moore as Usagi/Serena after the first 13 episodes, Terri Hawkes, also voiced Polaris on X-Men.

Then again, both the original Sailor Moon dub and X-Men had the involvement of Canadian-based voiceover studios (in Toronto, specifically).
