So now that we know Anna Paquin's Rogue will indeed be popping up in Bryan Singer's
X-Men: Days Of Future Past, how would you like some details on exactly how her character fits into the story? Vulture have provided a breakdown of an exciting sounding action set piece involving Rogue that has ended up on the cutting room floor, and why it was necessary to retain at least some of Paquin's scenes in the final cut of the film. Obviously,
SPOILERS ahead.
"While Wolverine is gallivanting around in the past with the X-Men: First Class cast, though, Kitty Pryde is injured, and her future hold on Wolverine becomes tenuous. In order to preserve the time travel bond, then, the X-Men must find Rogue, who has the ability to absorb any mutant power. Unfortunately, Rogue is being held prisoner at Xavier Mansion, which has been transformed into a Sentinel-guarded military base, and the mission to find and rescue her — an expensive, lengthy sequence that involves Professor X, Magneto, and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) — was sliced from the film in postproduction after Fox executives worried it would pad the running time to over two and a half hours. Rogue is still brought in briefly to absorb Kitty's power and tend to Wolverine, but the machinations to get her there will now happen offscreen."
Even more interestingly, the site mentions that three more mutant characters from the original
X-Men trilogy will also return for cameo appearances, but that "to even hint at their identities would reveal a major spoiler." Now one of these is most likely Kelsey Grammar, who was previously rumored to have shot scenes as the older version of Beast..but the other two? The only remaining original trilogy cast members (who played main characters anyway) not already accounted for are Famke Janssen (Jean Grey...dead in this continuity), Tyler Mane (Sabertooth..highly unlikely), Aaron Stanford (Pyro), Ben Foster (Angel), and, of course, James Marsten (Cyclops..also dead, but you never know!) What do you guys think?
