How 'Rogue' Fits Into X-MEN: DOFP; 3 More Old-School Mutants Set To Cameo

Yesterday we found out that Rogue (Anna Paquin) would actually still be appearing in the upcoming X-flick, though her role was reduced to a brief cameo. Now Vulture have uncovered details of her scenes, and also revealed that we can expect to see more of the original cast return too!

So now that we know Anna Paquin's Rogue will indeed be popping up in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days Of Future Past, how would you like some details on exactly how her character fits into the story? Vulture have provided a breakdown of an exciting sounding action set piece involving Rogue that has ended up on the cutting room floor, and why it was necessary to retain at least some of Paquin's scenes in the final cut of the film. Obviously, SPOILERS ahead.

"While Wolverine is gallivanting around in the past with the X-Men: First Class cast, though, Kitty Pryde is injured, and her future hold on Wolverine becomes tenuous. In order to preserve the time travel bond, then, the X-Men must find Rogue, who has the ability to absorb any mutant power. Unfortunately, Rogue is being held prisoner at Xavier Mansion, which has been transformed into a Sentinel-guarded military base, and the mission to find and rescue her — an expensive, lengthy sequence that involves Professor X, Magneto, and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) — was sliced from the film in postproduction after Fox executives worried it would pad the running time to over two and a half hours. Rogue is still brought in briefly to absorb Kitty's power and tend to Wolverine, but the machinations to get her there will now happen offscreen."

Even more interestingly, the site mentions that three more mutant characters from the original X-Men trilogy will also return for cameo appearances, but that "to even hint at their identities would reveal a major spoiler." Now one of these is most likely Kelsey Grammar, who was previously rumored to have shot scenes as the older version of Beast..but the other two? The only remaining original trilogy cast members (who played main characters anyway) not already accounted for are Famke Janssen (Jean Grey...dead in this continuity), Tyler Mane (Sabertooth..highly unlikely), Aaron Stanford (Pyro), Ben Foster (Angel), and, of course, James Marsten (Cyclops..also dead, but you never know!) What do you guys think?

Yeah Rob Liefield mentioned the cameos on Twitter a few days ago. Sad that the Rogue sequence was cut. Hopefully there's more future stuff in-between all the 70's craziness.

If the identities reveal a major spoiler, then I'm guessing it's Jean, Cyclops, and Beast - who all come back to life at the end of the film because of changes to the timeline.

From the trailers along, it seems EVERY mutant will have their time to shine. I'm most excited for Colossus, Blink, Havok, and Bishop.

All CBMs are ending up breaking 2 and a half hours now, what's the big problem? The general audience don't seem to mind

Yeah, it's probably the return of Jean and Cyclops once the timeline is changed. Maybe Jean will return in similar fashion to The Wolverine. They wouldn't do Pyro now that they have Sunspot.

And that description of Rogue's scene sounds right.

Guys, major set pieces are cut from a lot of big budget movies to trim the running time. Marvel do it too..but hey "[frick] FOX FAIL FOX [frick]!!"right?

I can see Fox doing something quite like All New X-Men if they can get McAvoy and Fassbender to sign on. I wouldn't be surprised if Xavier and Magneto (along with the new, younger X-Men team) end up in the present day at the end of Apocalypse

whats wrong with over 2 and a half hours, when you wait so long for a film, you want to milk every ounce of the experience, and over a 2 n half hour x-men film I would not mind lol

Aah it makes sense!
There was a BTS still released which showed someone else's hands doing the "Kitty time travel" thing to Wolverine, who had white sleeves like Rogue.

This sequence is probably better than the majority of the future scenes to be honest. Who cares if it's over 2 and a half hours long? A lot of movies are passing that runtime lately and for a film as big as the X Men, I don't think people would care.
