X-Men: Days of Future Past didn't exactly stick to the source material, but most fans still enjoyed Bryan Singer's attempt to bring the original
X-Men cast together with those from
X-Men: First Class. After all, Singer has never really adhered to the comic books so the many character deaths and underwhelming Sentinels weren't a huge surprise.
Now, Rob Liefeld has revealed that the filmmaker had plans to introduce Cable in the 2014 release and would have killed the character off in short order.
"He was originally in Days of Future Past in the Bishop role and he got killed," the comic book writer and artist says.
"And then there was a note that came back that said he's kind of too big of a character to do this with, and poor Bishop got slaughtered instead. But I swear to you... So, summer 2012, I was like, you can't, you can't have Cable."
"Like, as much as I want to see him," he continues,
"fans will freaking go nuts if they see him and you kill him immediately. He's too big."
It's a valid point, and while Cable would have fit in well in a story about time-travel, taking him out of the picture in such a casual manner would definitely have upset fans (Bishop was wasted enough as it was). Thankfully,
Deadpool 2 made good use of him and cleverly cast Josh Brolin as the mutant.
As for Singer, his Hollywood career appears to be over after multiple sexual assault allegations.
