Bryan Singer Planned On Casually Killing Off Cable In X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Further proving that Bryan Singer may not have been the best filmmaker to bring the X-Men to the big screen is this new reveal from Rob Liefeld, in which he sheds some light on plans for Cable in 2014...

X-Men: Days of Future Past didn't exactly stick to the source material, but most fans still enjoyed Bryan Singer's attempt to bring the original X-Men cast together with those from X-Men: First Class. After all, Singer has never really adhered to the comic books so the many character deaths and underwhelming Sentinels weren't a huge surprise.

Now, Rob Liefeld has revealed that the filmmaker had plans to introduce Cable in the 2014 release and would have killed the character off in short order.

"He was originally in Days of Future Past in the Bishop role and he got killed," the comic book writer and artist says. "And then there was a note that came back that said he's kind of too big of a character to do this with, and poor Bishop got slaughtered instead. But I swear to you... So, summer 2012, I was like, you can't, you can't have Cable."

"Like, as much as I want to see him,"
he continues, "fans will freaking go nuts if they see him and you kill him immediately. He's too big."

It's a valid point, and while Cable would have fit in well in a story about time-travel, taking him out of the picture in such a casual manner would definitely have upset fans (Bishop was wasted enough as it was). Thankfully, Deadpool 2 made good use of him and cleverly cast Josh Brolin as the mutant.

As for Singer, his Hollywood career appears to be over after multiple sexual assault allegations.

Deadpool can change whatever whenever he wants. With the time machine, he can be anywhere.

@Soos - I'm pretty sure I read that it's canon. They wanted to basically troll the audience.

@Soos - I feel like once a character breaks the 4th wall so aggressively, everything can be simultaneously canon on not canon.

But... Bishop is a big character, too.

I mean, I can't blame Liefeld for trying to protect one of his babies from the gaping waste maw of Bryan Singer's indifference, but that's a fate no character deserves.

...Okay, maybe Zaladane and Forearm. And maybe some of the Marauders.

...I wouldn't even feel comfortable letting Singer adapt the Reavers. And one of them is a guy named Bonebreaker with a tattoo on his arm of a bone going "SNAP".

"Hey, my name's Bonebreaker, and I need a really cool tattoo that people will remember, okay?"

Nobody is reading your tattoo, dumbass, you have a tank for legs. Everyone is too busy wondering if your dick is a little cannon.

@Spock0Clock - Yeah but Bishop is not in the same league as Cable.

Bishop is a big character too. But Cable is one of the most popular and fan favorite X-Men ever created.

@Spock0Clock - The scientist that built his weird tank body totally stopped mid build and were like "oh damn where are we gonna put his robo-dick?"

@Spock0Clock - But the whole point of DOFP is to reboot all those deaths. I think Fox & Singer were just gauging interest in these obscure characters. Singer did the same thing in X2 when he casually introduced Colossus & Nightcrawler to see if fans wanted to see them comeback in future films.

Bishop & Cable could still appear in future spin-offs. It's just Fox & Singer had no plans to ever use those characters again. Fox obviously gave Cable to Deadpool because they never planned on having him meet the X-Men. Deadpool is the franchise where cool X-Men characters that don't work in the main continuity can appear on screen.
