Magneto Movie on Hold - Waiting for Wolverine

20th Century Fox has put a hold on the X-Men spin-off "X-Men Origins: Magneto" until they have seen success with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" --so says David S. Goyer.

This news comes via an interview conducted by SuperHeroHype with David S. Goyer.

They report that Fox likes the script, but the success of Wolverine will be a big part of their decision to continue with the project.

"I don’t think they would consider moving forward until the movie comes out," said Goyer.

The official plot synopsis for “X-Men Origins: Magneto,” starts shortly after the flashback from the first X-Men movie with a young Eric Lensherr (Magneto) in a WWII concentration camp. The film explores Eric's awakening to his powers, and the friendship that develops between Charles Xavier (Professor X)--as well as their ultimate parting of ways.

I would love for them to keep up on the Origins motif. It would definitely be a good series of movies, with tie-ins to others here and there. Wolverine, will be amazing, so the green light on Magneto, IMO, is already there. They just want some confirmation.

Origins: Wolverine
Origins: Magneto
Origins: Xavier
Origins: Storm (NOT Halle Berry) with an appearance by Shadow King
Origins: Cyclops (even though he's a douche) it would bring in people like Mr Sinister
Origins: Beast
Origins: Nightcrawler (parents and all)

CANCEL IT!!!

The whole plot sucks! It's illogical to have young Magneto and young Charles facing off as enemies. They're supposed to be partners till after they get Jean Grey!!!

Plus anything filmed by Goyer sucks!

I would have to assume it's for those who haven't been fans of comics for a long time and just don't know where these people come from. PLus, for the fans as well, wanting to see the origins as applied to the movieverse.

I would hope they don't face off in the younger years, only to come to know how different their approaches are and it's kind of puts a HUGE wedge inbetween them.

As long as they use source material like "Magneto: Testament", we will all be pretty happy. That was a great read, and I can't wait to see what they decide to do with the film.
My only worry is that they will try to make this some kind of buddy film, and spend entirely too much time on the burgeoning relationship between Eric & Charles. Honestly, it would take away from an already rich and diverse background, and ruin the integrity of the character.
What I mean to say is: Please make this a "Magneto" movie, and not a "Magneto & Every other mutant in the Marvel Universe" movie.

I saw it posted in the last Megneto update that Charles was to save Magneto from a concentration camp. Isn't that supposed to be Wolverine's doing?

im not too pushed on this either way. like shaman said already, there isnt much of a story there without changing the story thats been laid out by the previous xmen movies. i do love the character however so id still go see the movie.

remember the storyline in the uncanny xmen that had magneto revert to a younger man with no memory of his evil past? thats a good magneto movie!

Y'know I wouldn't mind seeing this movie, it'd be very interesting to see Magneto and an origin movie for him and his relationship with Prof. Charles

Ya know, in general, it seems as if everyone take a break from the internet (at least this site) on the weekends. Why is that? Everyone just SO busy they can't post some decent comments or what?

all i have to say is not every single x men character needs a spin off wolverine makes sense cause he had his own story lines but not magneto now i would love to see an AOA movie made (thats Age Of Apocalypse for you none comic readers)
NoobMike
NoobMike - 12/15/2008, 10:01 AM
an AOA, probably won't happen although it could be really cool, and it would give the studios the chance to bring all the characters they killed in X-men 3 to this timeline, making it possible to have more X-men movies.

It probably won't happen, because they have to introduce legion have him go back in time and kill his father, and explain the M'kraan crystal collapsing all realities, introduce Bishop and explain how he can survive the temporal drift, introduce apocalypse and his survival of the fittest. Hell I don't fully understand that crystal and I followed the X-men for a long time.

Maybe they could make a trilogy, and that way the story might work. I just think that although AOA was cool, it was extremely confusing for new comic book readers, and although I'd love to see it in a movie I really don't know how to pull it off without confusing everyone.

Now for the Magneto movie, don't know how it could work. I fear it could end up like a Schindler's list meets Punisher.

Well ION, i don't have much time to spend on the internet on the weekends and when i do get on to Comicbookmovie.com, especially since we now have Fansites, i can't get off it without spending more than an hour LOL. Thanks for the compliment on the pics :))

AOA, sign me up anytime!!! Ain't gonna happen though. And give me the "magneto turned good" movie any day of the week before his origins. They're so irrelevant.
HarrisonBergeron
HarrisonBergeron - 12/16/2008, 6:52 PM
Magneto's origins are far from irrelevant, they explain why he chooses the opposite path of Xavier.

I think an Apocalypse movie would be awesome, but I think it would have to be a reboot. The Arc Angel part of the Apocalypse story is the best part, but Angel was already used in the last set of movies and in a way that was inspired by the Apocalypse story line, it would cause issues.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 12/16/2008, 8:08 PM
yeah but we already know why, because he sees the humans fear and mistrust of mutants as another potential holocaust..im sure they could come up with some set pieces to really hammer home the point but i dont think we need a movie about it.

i didnt really see angels part in x3 as inspired by what apocalypse did to him, he was just a bland one dimentional character with daddy issues..anyway the dudes above are taliking about the Age of Apocalypse ..which is a very complicated futuristic/alternative reality tale which i enjoyed but still dont think i fully understood!
