BOX OFFICE: 2 GUNS Takes #1 With $27.3 Million; THE WOLVERINE Hits $95 Million

2 Guns exceeded expectations this weekend, while The Smurfs 2 failed to make an impact in a summer packed full of big animated releases. James Mangold's The Wolverine came in at second place and is now closing in on $100 million. Read on for details!

It's been an extremely few weeks at the North American box office, with many big budget and high profile movies - Pacific Rim for example - failing to find an audience. However, after a fairly strong start for The Wolverine last week, 2 Gun (which had a very modest production cost compared to most summer blockbusters) has found success by taking the #1 spot. Below is a full rundown of this weekend at the North American box office courtesy of Twitter's @ERCboxoffice.

Don't know much about 2Guns, but Wolverine, best CBM so far this year! The Conjuring, also a great movie, definitely in my top ten maybe top five horror movies all time!

Who would have thought the Wolverine would be better than MoS and IM3?

@remy If you are a money guy, then stay that way! Wolverine was great and the best CBM this year, so far hands down!

Why are you even here? All you say is the same shit like a broken record, don't like the Fox X-Men? Then don't go to articles associated with them and stop being an annoying wanker.

I'll be there for the Wolverine home release after hearing so many rather good things about it, but I just can't motivate myself to see it on the big screen...

When it gets released spam the articles as much as you want, if you hate something ignore it. Simple logic bro.

Its funny how people on this site are automatically on polar opposites of the spectrum with any opinions. I think The Wolverine was good but definantly not the greatest. I am eagar to see DOFP tho. Thor "Svartalfheim" is going to be movie of the year IMHO.

You love Wolverine yet you keep bitching about how its flopping, how DOFP is dead on arrival and how you want Wolverines horrible yellow costume in a reboot. For some one who likes something you sure have a shitty way of showing it.

As for SS the change worked in the context of the film, even the CGI on him looked pretty good.

Yellow and blue has no business being on a guy like Wolverine, give me his X-Force costume any day of the weak over his standard one, hell the new yellow and black one thats coming with INHUMANITY looks like it could work in a movie. But the mask is the problem because it like connects to his hair or something.

As far as Wolverine underperfoming I do think audience fatigue is a big factor but I also think the sequel to what is considered among the worst movies of the past decade (Wolvie Origins) didn't help this film at all, even good word of mouth would do little to help its situation.

I think we're used to the Batman and Iron Man type numbers. This character still has legs. $100million is nothing to scoff at and given the weak end of summer movies plus DVD release for Xmas this movie will do well enough to make another. DoFP will get wolvie to another film. Things to look forward to are possibly a return of Liev/Sabretooth, a suit, and maybe even a crossover with another franchise.....sony...are you listening? Keep em coming Fox.

Lol you realize wolverine is on par with first class(a financial success) box office wise in the us and out pacing overseas with a smaller budget!I understand that you don't like fox lol but get real men lie women lie numbers don't!

@Remy

In my opinion Caps costume in Avengers failed badly. Im glad they're making it less comic booky and more like his commander Steve Rogers suit, I wish they would ditch the helmet seeing as everyone knows who Captain America is.

The hell you talkin about man? DOFP will be anything but DOA when it comes out! Its gonna be at least number 1 in the box office for at least 2 weeks, maybe 3 and will be a fan favorite among XMEN fans.

Gaurenteed Wolverine wasnt perfect but it was certainly better than The Last Stand and Origins

For Comic Book movies this year, this is how they should be ranked from best to worst

Thor: The Dark World
The Wolverine
Man of Steel
Iron Man 3
R.I.P.D

If there are anymore of them that I forgot, I do apologize.

But man, dont be hatin on DOFP, I seen ya not bein able to tell the future!
NeoBaggins

This was critical for the screen-life of the character and they [frick]ed it up with a slow, boring ass movie with a ridiculous finale that makes ORIGINS Brakapool fight look epic.

It should have been called THE WOLVERINE: IN BED

Wolverine spends a lot of time in bed hallucinating, having claw-unsheathing nightmares, getting MATRIX squids spit in his mouth and attacked by short Samurai.

Somebody must have loved Origins Claw-wake up scene and decided to make a whole movie about it.

Thing is with Thor 2 is that you know its gonna be amazing and much much better than Iron Man 3 was

Its Marvel Studios, how can you go wrong?

The only thing I didnt like about Iron Man 3 was that there wasnt enough action but I do understand that the aftermath of the Avengers, Tony is depressed and such cause he had to fight in a huge battle and almost died.

So I know saying Thor 2 is gonna be the best is really early but I have full confidence that it will, especially with the director from the show Game of Thrones doing it, that tells me that its gonna be crazy good!

and again, Its Marvel Studios, they havent had a bad movie yet since they formed in 2008 with the start of Phase 1.

@omegagood Do you think in 2014 movie going audiences will let the Batman and Superman movie flop because they are sick of seeing Batman ( who has been in more movies than Wolverine)?

Iron man has 2 More movies left, the wolverine however is going to appear in every fox x-men movies, and he's going to be the main character.

"Its Marvel Studios, how can you go wrong?"

Well the first Thor was painfully mediocre and it suffered the same problems of Green Lantern, too much Earth shit, too little cool Asgard/Nine Realms stuff we actually care about. That and the horribly rushed character development and the overall focus on the romance just killed it for me.

Im particularly skeptical of it after Iron Man 3 which had plenty of other issues like it trying to be both super dark and super funny creating a completely uneven tone to the whole film, the comedy was really forced down our throats and destroyed any dramatic tension, Tony's whole character development and origin from the past movies was removed, the glaring plot holes and an ending which tries to fool you into thinking he had a real character arc when really he was just acting like classic asshole Tony who endangers the people he loves just for shits and giggles.

So yea I couldn't be more skeptical of Thor The Dark World and if they botch it as badly as they did IM3 then Phase 2 is a failure in my opinion. You can [frick] up one of my favorite Marvel heroes, but [frick]ing up the other mere months later is where Im done.
