CHARLIE'S ANGELS' Kristen Stewart Was Told To Play Down Her Sexuality If She Hoped To Nab A Marvel Role

Kristen Stewart has never been shy about her fluid sexuality, but the Charlie's Angels actress has now revealed that she was told to tone down the public displays of affection if she wanted a Marvel role.

During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Kristen Stewart revealed that she was advised to play down her sexuality in order to advance her career.

The 29-year-old Twilight actress, who will star in the upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot, says she was "fully told" that if she did herself a favor and didn't "go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.”

We don't know if it was actually someone from Marvel who said this (it more than likely wasn't), and Stewart doesn't clarify if she was up for a specific role at the time. Either way, it seems clear that her refusal to play ball has had an impact on her career... not that she gives a damn.

"‘I was informed by an old-school mentality, which is – you want to preserve your career and your success and your productivity,’ she continued. ‘There are people in the world who don’t like you, and they don’t like that you date girls, and they don’t like that you don’t identify as a quote unquote “lesbian”, but you also don’t identify as a quote unquote “hetero-sexual”. And people like to know stuff, so what the f*** are you?’

If Stewart did decide to try her hand at the superhero movie genre, which Marvel - or DC - character do you think she'd best suit? Drop us a comment down below, and check out some photos from Kristen's shoot with Harper's Bazaar.

@Robby - Disney really can't win in situations like this. I remember when Ellen came out of the closet, Disney was blamed in pro-LGBT circles for her show's cancellation, but (in my backward ass neck of the woods) people were blaming Disney for giving her a platform at all.

Being a big, mostly mainstream organization that doesn't have much of a political agenda outside of being the single-most-dominant force of commoditized creativity means critics can pin basically any ideology they hate on you, I guess.

No ones sexuality is.more questionable than Taika Waititi so I doubt someone at Marvel said anything lol (I know Taikas straight but hes like the New Zealnd Jeff Goldblum to me)

@MrCamw1 - Both of the men you mentioned are still alway in very hetro relationships tho...being metrosexual is the same as being queer

Bruh that's wild. Who says stuff like that?

The way the quote reads doesn't make it sound like it's directly from Marvel, but it could be a studio exec. Kinda sounds like a publicist or manager.

Uhhh....

Tessa Thompson
Angelina Jolie
Tilda Swinton

Yeah, no. Stewart is pulling her Twilight nonsense again.

I could actually see her as Pattinson's Catwoman lol. Also Batwoman would work since I think she's just missed out on the age limit for Batgirl. Come at me.

I doubt Marvel of all would do that

The problem for gay actors or singers is not that they're gay is that the fantasy is gone.

My Sister LOVED Ricky Martin but as soon as he came out as gay she lost all interest because he
could never be her fantasy anymore

@OmegaDaGrodd - Tessa Thompson was really out when she was cast tho, plus they cut her queer scene from ragnorak so....

Sounds about right, that's the old school Hollywood mentality right there. Sucks for her and others like her that have to deal with those people.

Terrible situation, terrible thing to say. Kristen's awesome. Both as a person and actress as far as I'm concerned.

Rachel Morrison (DP of Black Panther) is also gay. Highly doubt this came from Marvel. Sounds like an employee, a friend of family member.

Honestly any studio exec would be pretty dumb to tell her this to her face. All she has to do is publicly say "X studio exec from Y studio told me this" and a boycott is launched and the person is fired.

@VisionWitch

Um...I did? Both this and the original article, and the others floating around now posits she may not land a Marvel role for her sexuality. The wording all around is very vague. I’m only stating that Marvel has in fact casted sexually-fluid actors. Now again, it’s possible that if what she’s saying is true, isn’t coming directly from Marvel and could just be a typical Hollywood suit. But it just isn’t consistent with how Marvel has gone about casting, and how in general it has opened up to more and more diverse roles, whether it’s by race, belief, or sexuality.

Victoria Alonso, one of Marvel Studios' chief producers, is openly gay, so this was probably someone on Stewart's team who said this. Really terrible thing to say too

Both Marvel Studios & WB have employed LGBT actors for roles so this old-school philosophy that fans won't accept an LGBT actor in the superhero genre is pure stupidity. If it's Kristen's agents telling her this I hope she fired them. The superhero genre is perhaps the most inclusive film genre out there simply because they're influenced by comics that are inclusive. And all studios know, in order to survive they have be inclusive to all people.

With that said, regarding a possible Marvel Studios role, I think she would make a great MCU Rogue -provided she can do it with a southern accent.

@VisionWitch - To follow up with the other comment I posted, I admittedly may be brash here, and I don’t of course know Stewart personally, I don’t have a reason to believe she’s making it up.

It sucks for anyone to be persecuted of things like this though.

@TokenWakandan - I doubt it's from Marvel TV as well to be fair. One of the actresses in Runaways (Ariela Barer) is gay and I think one of the actors that was in SHIELD is gay as well.

@FBarnhill - Unless this is sarcasm, you do realise one of Feige's colleagues is gay, right?

That sounds like some dick from some agency or PR firm with their head up their own butt. One completely out of touch with Disney’s actual castings as of late. Trying to validate their own purpose for existing.

If someone representing Marvel told her that, it’s horrible.

If it wasn’t someone representing Marvel, it’s horrible of her to imply that’s how they operate.

Either way, the fact that Tessa Thompson can stand on the largest stage at Comicon during Marvel’s big presentation and announce that her character will be looking for her Queen belies the idea that the company is overly worried about who an actress holds hands with in public.

Sounds like the kind of advice that would come from a casting agent or her agent directly and not from Marvel or Disney. Marvel Studios are probably one of the most inclusive studios out there at the moment.

Woah! This will be interesting. Kevin Feige & Disney will be looking to deny this, get lucky, and dodge this potential PR sh!t storm like Neo:

WAAAAA! It's soooo hard being a liberal sexual weirdo in Hollywood! not like those Christian conservatives and Republicans in Hollywood who always get positive affirmations and told "celebrate who you are" and "be yourself" all the time!! WAAAAAAA!!!

If this was from Feige and Marvel studios, why didnt they tell Richard Madden, who's rumored to be bisexual?

@bcom - It sounds like a similar situation to what happened with Zoe Kravitz & The Dark Knight Rises. Her allegedly looking too "ethnic" for the (Holly Robinson) role. The studio or director being able to possibly indirectly discriminate against an actor, without any actual proof. An MCU casting director likely saying to Kristen Stewart's agent, that she has to basically tone down her gay PDA, in order to get an offer.

I could kind of see Kristen Stewart as Rogue!
