Paramount have named a release date for it's adaptation of the novel World War Z. It's to hit theaters four days before Christmas, Dec. 21, 2012. This happens to be the date that Disney will release The Lone Ranger And both movies will have competition from Fox as former Spider-Man Tobey Maguire will star in Life Of Pi around the same time.

Brad Pitt heads up the cast of World War Z, an adaptation of Max Brook’s novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War" which also stars Lost's Mathew Fox. The Lone Ranger stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the titular Western hero.

Here is a short synopsis for WWZ which we haven't previously been covering too much..

“Story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”

So which of these huge movies most tickles your fancy? Will you be more loyal to The Lone Ranger which has had it's fair share of comic adaptations, or WWZ which, lets face it, most likely will have one before the film's release?

If you have not read World War Z then you must. This book blows every single zombie movie out of the water.

I hope they did not tweak the story. But rather be Brad Pitt potraying Max Brook going across the world getting peoples encounters with the zombies.

I will see them both. Loved WWZ and Lone Ranger should be good.

Not sure I like what they did with the the WWZ story though. Thought it would have been fine as it was written. Can't have Pitt just sit there and talk to people I guess

this aint about the movies being released, it is about which star actor has the most fans plus how much buzz they can create in the months to come before the movie is released.

thats what it is all about. not about the movies themselves.

Does anyone else feel like zombies are being slightly overdone right now? Not that I don't like a good zombie flick. We need a army of villans for Hollywood to be able to use instead of Nazis, aliens, and zombies. I know, old people. The ones with a lot of gusto. Sorry, Gusto.

Hoping WWZ will bring Matthew Fox more into the limelight so that he will sign on to play Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect movie
