Who is Emily the Strange? I'll let the front page of emilystrange.com fill you in with some knowledge.
Emily's not your average thirteen year-old-girl. Pink is her worst nightmare...she wears the same black dress every day. She loves math and science. Her best friends are her four BLACK CATS! She's into old rock & punk, but also digs newer bands like My Chemical Romance (BTW, Gerard Way is featured in her Dark Horse comic book, "Revenge at Last!") Emily is so anticool she's cool... a subculture of one, and a follower of no one but herself.
Looks like I have a new reason to bust out my black nail polish again! Boo yah!
Melisa Wallack, who wrote the script that became Relativity’s high-profile Snow White project, has been drafted by Universal to pen Emily the Strange.
Chloe Moretz is attached to star as the punky goth cult figure created by skateboarder Rob Reger. Dark Horse's Mike Richardson is producing.
Dark Horse Entertainment has been developing the character as a movie project since 2008, setting it up at Universal in 2010.
The story line is being kept under wraps, although the aim is to tell the origin of the punk and gothic figure and how she comes to gain her abilities that fuse technology and imagination. The story will also focus on her relationship with four cats: troublemaker Sabbath, schemer Nee-Chee, imaginative Miles and leader Mystery.
Melisa Wallack doesn't have much of a resume, with only one other credit to her name. She was the writer and director of Aaron Eckhart's
Meet Bill which is better known to most people as, "What movie?"
Having Chloe Moretz take on this role or any role is exciting. Her breakout performance in
Kick-Ass was so good that it carried much of the movie in my opinion. You'll soon see her in
Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp.
