The Governator has narrowed down his film comeback return debut to one of two projects. One is from director Kim Jee Woon titled the Last Stand, it will be the first American film from the director of 2010’s The Good, The Bad, The Weird (trailer below). The other is from Antoine Fuqua who also recently returned to film with Brooklyn's Finest, also the director of 1999's Training Day.
From Coming Soon.net...
The Last Stand is the first American film from Kim Jee-woon (I Saw the Devil, The Good, The Bad, The Weird) and tells the story of an American sheriff battling against a Mexican drug cartel. In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, Jee-woon described the project as follows:
"[I]t's kind of a combination of 'Die Hard' and 'High Noon' where (the latter) was about protecting something very important that needs to be protected, while 'Die Hard' is a very drawn-out, long process that almost kills someone in the process. So my film will be something that has to be very well protected and, in the process, we almost die protecting it in a way."
The Tomb, meanwhile, is set to arrive from Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Brookyln's Finest) and features an expert prison designer who has to escape from the very structure that he helped create."
On one hand both projects seem interesting. The sheriff sounds like the more glorious return. I would say Brooklyn's Finest took itself a little too seriously, and we don't want more Schwarzenegger being taken too seriously. Having a take on Arnold from someone new to directing "american" films also sounds pretty exciting.
