IRON MAN Star Robert Downey Jr. Is Nearly Unrecognisable In New Stills From Christopher Nolan's OPPENHEIMER

Some new stills have been released from Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, and as Robert Downey Jr. looks to move on from his time in the MCU as Iron Man, you'll find him completely unrecognisable here...

Thanks to Total Film (via ActioNewz.com), we have a new look at Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated next movie. Revolving around J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who was tasked with creating the first nuclear bomb during World War II, the story follows him in the aftermath of the horrifying bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Batman Begins star Cillian Murphy plays the title character, and he can be seen below along with Emily Blunt as Robert's wife, Kitty, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, the Chairman of the US Atomic Enemy Commission, who later became one of Oppenheimer's greatest detractors.

We also have behind-the-scenes shots featuring Murphy, Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema.

Talking to the publication about the Iron Man star's role in this project, Nolan said: "We all know that Robert Downey Jr. is one of the great movie stars."

"It’s so easy to forget that he’s also one of the greatest actors of all time. Watching him lose himself in that performance, and completely lose himself in a character in this way, was just an incredible reminder of just what an amazing actor he is."

Fans remain keen to see Nolan return to the comic book genre, though we don't anticipate that happening in the near future. Christian Bale has said he'd return as Batman if the director is involved, but Nolan has shown little interest in returning to Gotham City for any sort of follow-up.

The amazing cast also includes Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Dane DeHaan, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Eherenreich, and Matthew Modine. Like Dunkirk, it's a historical retelling of a turning point in human history, but there's still the expected level of secrecy surrounding Nolan's next blockbuster.

Based on the 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, we have a feeling this one will be something really special.

Oppenheimer arrives in theaters on July 21, 2023.

That man is wearing glasses. Robert Downey Jr doesn't wear glasses. Clearly two different individuals.

“Unrecognizable”… yo Josh, open a dictionary and look up what that word means.

We can all see that actor is RDJ. He might be aged with makeup/prosthetics/CGI, but that does not make him unrecognizable LMFAO

Hopefully this will be a return to form and more like Nolans earlier and less like what has come since Inception.

Kind of bummed to hear that this is about Oppenheimer after the bomb. Was hoping for a before and after.

Josh... you have to relax with all this hyperbole just to create a sensational headline to grab eyes. "Unrecognizable"? Come on. It's just RDJ. "Unrecognizable" my ass.

Your headlines don't work, they just sound ridiculous when they're so far off base. Sure, we're reading this, but that's despite your headline. They're not having the effect you think it's having. It comes off so nauseatingly desperate.

Please take some writing and journalism classes. And if you already have, you were robbed and should get a new education. Just being real with you.

@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - as a journalism major it is absolutely painful to see these stupid ass headlines and absolutely zero revisions done to the copy. especially in 2022 just copy and paste that into grammarly bro. sad to see

Bruh, you mean to tell me if someone showed yoy that pic without context, you wouldn't know it's RDJ? He's just wearing a wig and some glasses.

@ForceofWakanda - RDJ and Paul Thomas Anderson seems inevitable too. PTA was a protégé of Robert Downey Sr. and they have almost worked together a few times, RDJ was his first choice for Inherent Vice and they almost did (yet another lol) Pinocchio in the mid-2010s that never happened.

Very curious to see a trailer. I love Nolan and most of his movies are top notch, but wasn't a huge fan of Tenet. I'll probably see this but hope this one is good
