SPECTRE Movie Finally Breaks Fifty-Year-Old Bond Curse

SPECTRE Movie Finally Breaks Fifty-Year-Old Bond Curse

With just one month to go until the release of the new 007 adventure , the film is already breaking franchise records. This one in particular is a milestone that the series surprisingly hadn´t reached yet.

Even though the 007 films have had brilliant singers like Paul McCartney and Shirley Bassey doing their theme songs, no Bond theme has ever reached #1 on the UK charts. The closest ones were Duran Duran´s "A View to a Kill" in 1985 and Adele´s "Skyfall" three years ago, both of which peaked at number 2. Well, today that curse has been broken.

Despite a mixed response from fans, Sam Smith´s "Writings on the Wall" reached number 1 on UK charts in just a week edging out Justin Bieber's hit "What do you Mean?", making it the first theme song of the 53-year-old franchise to ever reach number 1. The song is only available on Spotify and Itunes at the moment, making this victory even more impressive but the song´s music video, starring Smith, will be released next week.

Even if you are not a fan of the tune, you gotta apreciate the level of awareness it´s giving to the already highly anticipated film, making it´s chances of surpassing Skyfall´s BO total even bigger. Spectre hits theaters worldwide November 6.

I haven't listened to it because I feel the best way to first hear a Bond theme is with the film. I kind of ruined the Skyfall opening experience for myself after hearing it so much before seeing the movie and I won't do that again!

Still not heard it in full, but from what I have heard, the word "Spectre" seems to be conspicuously missing, from the chorus.

It's an ok song, but GnR's "Anything Goes" and Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind" eat this song for breakfast.

I still 100% believe Lana Del Rey should've been the one to do the Spectre theme.

Huh, that's pretty good free advertising. 007 movies shouldn't be a hard sell, but they never seem to make as much as they should, balanced against the hugely expensive marketing campaigns. Of course, it would be much better if the song is a hit in the States. I always avoid the new Bond song until I see the movie, but it would be nice to get two genuinely great theme songs in a row. I don't think it's ever happened. I know tastes will vary, but the shitty Bond songs still outnumber the good ones. If takes three or four Adeles to outweigh one Madonna.
