Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, partners in Working Title Films, have made a deal to turn Kurt Busiek's graphic novel series Astro City into a live action film. The deal gives Busiek his first chance at script writing. The Astro City series has won Eisner and Harvey awards for Busiek.

Bevan and Fellner will produce with Busiek, Johnathan Alpers and Ben Barenholtz executive producing.

For those not familiar with Astro City, here is a brief synopsis from Dealine...

Launched in 1995, the series has a Sin City anthology vibe, set in a world crammed with superheros and super-villains. Stories are told from the vantage point of those heroes and villains, as well as the humans who get caught between them. Heroes range from Samaritan, The Hanged Man, The Apollo Eleven--a group of astronauts mutated during a moon landing--to Winged Beauty, a feisty feminist who always saves women first.

Hawksblueyes: I will be looking forward to this one.

Astro City was a fine comicbook sreies...bring on Jack-In-The-Box. He's one of those bad-asses with no actual superpowers but gets the job done!

Awesome News Hawks! But it's not Winged Beauty. It's Winged Victory. Plus Jack in the Box, Cracker Jack, the Old Soldier, Silver Agent, The Furst Family, Quarrel, Honor Guard and many, many more.

I have been waiting for this for some time. As a matter of fact I did an editorial Several weeks ago entitled "What about Astro City?" So to me this is great news dude.

For those of you that have never read any Astro City, pick up the trades. Busieck and Ross created an awesome universe. It is definitely worth the read!

Check out my Editorial if you like...

I always wanted to read this series, but I just never got around to it. Cool that they're making a movie of it though. I'll have to get some reading done before it comes out. :)

Great news. Love this series.

People who haven't read it really should. One of the classics.

@Romack: Commented in your editorial - didn't see it at the time or I would have then. :)

Keith@ lol. I saw that. Thanks man. I've been waitin' on some news. :)

I really hope they can pull this off. With such a large cast of characters it is better suited for a running TV series. They could even start it off with an 8 hour mini-series. I like your idea of having the POV from the citizens of AC. It would be pretty cool.

Romack...that's exactly what I was going to say. An Astro City movie will rock, but this really needs to be a continuing series on a network that could really do it justice, FX maybe?

I've been hoping that this comic book renaissance we're seeing will translate to some serious continuing tv series. Movies are great, but wouldn't you like to have 2 or 3 weekly tv shows to watch? Would beat the hell out of having to wait 2 or 3 years for the next movie.....
