Paramount to Film DC's The Mighty?

Deadline is reporting that Paramount has picked up rights to DC's The Mighty, which was created by Keith Champagne and Peter Tomasi. Apparently this one isn't going through Warner Brothers because the rights are controlled by Champagne and Tomasi.

Says Deadline of The Mighty, "They've come up with a nifty take on the superhero genre. The protagonist is mortal, a tough cop. He hunts a villain who is the superhero and must overcome the obvious disadvantages of going up against someone with superpowers."

Here's how DC described a pair of graphic novel compilations:

#1: "America's only Super Hero, Alpha One, is introduced in this first collection featuring issues #1-6 of the intriguing new series THE MIGHTY. But when murder strikes at the top of Alpha's crimefighting organization, the life of one of its members will change forever."

#2: "The saga of Alpha One concludes here, with THE MIGHTY #7-12! Lt. Gabriel Cole has worked his way up the ranks of Section Omega, with a connection to Alpha One that reaches back to his own childhood tragedy. But when Alpha One reveals a sinister secret, Cole must stop this renegade superman from destroying life on Earth."

DC is just looking spread the love with it's non=major characters. They will be in charge of Bats, Supes and other major players. I'm assuming.

That comic doesn't even take place in the DCU, it'll be a little bit like how RED was made, sounds interesting.

@blueorangeny: It's a creator-owned series, the authors are not obligated to sell the film rights of their own comic to WB only because they published it via DC comics.

This is good since Paramount is done with Marvel movies after Captain America. More less known DC Comics should be made by other studios.

u do realise this character is not part of the same universe as Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman. so the character is open to be a done by other studios.

have you forgotten that this is not the only DC comic book been development at other studios.

- Road to Perdition, Dreamworks
- Stardust, Paramount Pictures
- The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, 20th Century Fox.
- R.E.D., Summit Entertainment
- The Spirit, Lions Gate Entertainment

all are DC comic imprint done by other film studios.

are u kidding me Road to Perdition really was weak lol

because them movies was at other that mean The Mighty will also suck, GTFO. even WB/DC produce their own movies and they sucked too i.e. Catwoman, Batman and Robin, Jonah Hex, Superman Returns LOL
