Robert Downey Jr. is a great actor. When Quirky Downey Jr. was cast, I was quite skeptical. Then the movie came. In 2008, we were all blown away as he pulled off Tony Stark's swagger, cool, and intellect. Before Robert's great performance, the best Marvel performance was either Patrick Stewart as Prof. X or Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, and maybe Chris Evans as the Human Torch. Robert has proven that he is a great actor, and a great comic book role actor. Ryan Reynolds has played Hannibal King, Deadpool, and (soon) the Green Lantern. Twenty bucks says that he'll get another role. So far Robert is superior.
Heath Ledger's Joker earned him an Oscar, and spoke volumes that a comic character could win. When Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker, I was so mad I smacked my littler brother. His performance made me want to slap myself. he embodied the role, and I would never have thought so before. Pre-"The Dark Knight," the best performances were Christian Bale as Batman, Jack Nicholson as Tim Burton's Joker, and Brandon Routh as Superman. I was a skeptic until these two performances. I now trust certain castings, e.g. Chris Evans as Cap and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.

uhm ya, Mr. Christopher Reeve was & always will be Superman. Routh sucked. Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark & Chris Hemsworth is looking very promising as Thor! Also if I may say that everyone in Kick Ass was AWEsome. :) haha

Heath Ledger made us believe Villains can be scary. Robert Downey Jr. made us believe Iron Man could be built. Christopher Reeve made us believe a man could fly.

Chloe Mortez......made us believe a 12-year old girl can kick a** and be a foul-mouth and get away with it.

Well hopefully the upcoming roles (Green Lantern, Cap, Thor, "Next X-Men", Avengers, Spidey, and so on) will also be greatly played.

I don't know about you guys but if we see actors owning these roles I think Hollywood may have improved.......barely

It's kind of hard to have Patrick Stewart as Professor X in the same standings, simply because RDJ and Heath got an entire movie of acting based around them, We all know Dark Knight was basically "JOKER: (and some batman)", but in the few scenes with Patrick Stewart he literally pitch perfect, The thing is, there are actors that have awesome performances, (RDJ and Heath) and then there are actors that literally look like they jumped out of the comic book page to be in a movie, Patrick Stewart is arguably the most perfect casting of a comic book character ever, also even though it's a shame that X3 was such a disaster, Kelsey Grammar as Beast was pretty incredible, the makeup and costume is arguable to some, but even if beast just CGI Kelsey Grammer's voice would have been perfect

So for perfect casting, it'd really have to go
1) Patrick Stewart: Professor X
2) Mickey Rourke: Marv
3) Ryan Reynolds: Deadpool
4) Kelsey Grammer: Beast

TBH Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull might be up there

airbeyonder18, that quote sounds like it belongs on motivational poster in a cubicle.

By the way I finally saw Kick-Ass this weekend...I was very displeased, Cage's acting was atrocious, and really the book surpassed that movie I'm glad I rented and not watch it in theaters. From all the critics on here praising the movie I thought it would be awesome, which it did have cool parts but as a whole it was one weak ass movie.

Best actor for adaptation and keeping true to the character in the book would have to go to Downey Jr. or Ron Perlman as Hellboy

touche on ron perlman as hellboy, I forgot about that one
SurvivalBeard
SurvivalBeard - 8/9/2010, 4:17 PM
but that's awful writing, if the part of beast is wrote how it should have been, Kelsey Grammer would be perfect

here are some of my top picks in no particular order. some of you have, imho, overlooked some of the older CBM performances.

- J. K. Simmons - J. Jonah Jameson
- Heath Ledger - Joker
- Patrick Stewart - Professor Charles Xavier
- Ian McKellen - Magneto
- RDJ - Tony Stark/Iron Man
- Willem Dafoe - Norman Osborn/Green Goblin
- William Hurt - Thunderbolt Ross
- Jack Nicholson - Joker
- Most of the people in Watchmen (perfect casting!)
- Michelle Pfeiffer - Catwoman
- Danny DeVito - Penguin

and how about Arnold Schwarzenneger as Conan the Barbarian? That CBM isn't even on this site's list!!! Although Conan existed before Marvel, the movie was obviously adapted from Marvel's version. And Arnold is awesome in that old movie, the perfect Conan.

@MrAnonymous- I'm sorry, but Routh sucked bad. Reeve was for me- the true embodiment of Superman. Routh just imitated Reeve. I agree with you on every point except for Brandon Routh (he really did suck)

But yeah, Robert Downey Jr was nearly flawless as Tony Stark/Iron Man. His acting was really just SPOT ON in every category.

Heath Ledger was just freaken EPIC as the Joker. His performance was one of the best i had ever witnessed in a comic book film ever...even compared to mainstream films too. Heath was the BEST Joker ever.
