Sandman TV Series Update: It's Not Happening, For Now

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke revealed to THR that a TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comic series is not in the works, at least not this season..

Eric Kripke had been attached to a tv series based on Neil Gaiman's acclaimed Sandman comic since September, although there had been no word on it since. Well, it seems as if it WAS finally going to become a reality, but once again the excellent comic which has been deemed "unfilmable" by many will not be gracing our tv screens, yet..

“Unfortunately, for a lot of varying reasons, Sandman is not in the works, at least for this season. [it] just didn’t quite happen this season through nobody’s fault, and hopefully we can do it again in the future.”

Kripke had even met with Gaiman to discuss plans for the show..

“I’m such a fan of Neil, and he’s every bit as smart as promised and every bit as cool and down-to-earth, and I just loved my conversations with him. When I saw [Gaiman], I said, ‘Just so you know, I rip you off all the time for the show,’ and he said, ‘I really appreciate that because you and Kevin Smith have both been very public about ripping me off, and I don’t mind if people rip me off, I just want them to be public and admit it,"

This is a real shame. And even though Kripke sounds optimistic that the show will happen at some point, I really can't imagine that it will. But the popularity of The Sandman can't be something that DC and WB are overlooking. Done right an adaptation, either tv series or movie, could be a huge success.

its kinda bittersweet...I'm sad that it's not happening, but i'm glad that its not because this means that it wont be done by CW.

But when it finally does happen, it needs to be like a 3 part movie or an HBO series...that way they can fit everything in and not have to edit things outs

I don't know that comic. Anybody can tell me what it is about in a few words?

HBO for sure, or at least some other channel that has the balls to do it without watering it down and losing what makes it brilliant.

I really wanna see this get done either in the form of a tv series or a movie, along with Preacher.

I'd rather they make a big screen movie instead. Stop dicking around for once Warner Bros.

@TheBurn: The Sandman is about Dream (aka Oneiros aka The Sandman aka Morpheus, etc.), lord of Dreams and Stories and the very personification of these.
The comic is both about him and everyone who happen to cross his realm, be it one of the other endless (like Death or Destiny), ancient Gods and other creatures of Mith, mortals (either historical figures or common people) and even some supeheroes.

glad it's dead, this doesnt belong on CW...this needs to be on HBO/Showtime/Cinemax somthing that wont hold back the rawness that is the comic, on the CW too much would be held back

I'm such a huge Neil Gaiman fan (see avatar). If/when Sandman gets done I hope its done right....and a show on CW isn't the way to do it. It's a very mature story and a show on CW wouldn't do it justice.

Do it Dark Tower-style. Make some big-budget films (three should be enough) and bridge the gaps between them with a television series.
