Joss Whedon's BATGIRL Movie Will Reportedly Focus On The New 52 Version Of Barbara Gordon
Earlier today, we found out that Joss Whedon was being lined up to helm a solo Batgirl movie for Warner Bros., and now we have some new details about which version of the character will feature..
Following today's shocking news that Marvel's Avengers director Joss Whedon would be jumping ship to DC to helm Warner Bros.' Batgirl movie, we have some new info on which incarnation of the character he'll be adapting for the big screen.
According to EW, it's going to be Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon, under the cowl, and "the movie will use the DC Comics New 52 version of the character as a starting point." The film is expected to draw from Gail Simone's "harder-edged" opening arc, which saw Babs back on the streets of Gotham after regaining full mobility following her infamous crippling at the hands of The Joker years earlier.
It remains to be seen if The Clown prince of Crime makes an appearance, of course, but it would certainly be one way to connect the movie to the larger DCEU.
Though this update probably won't come as much of a surprise, it is nice to know for sure that the movie won't deal with Batgirl sitting in front of a screen as Oracle for 2 hours. Thoughts?
