Filmmaker James Gunn introduced the world to a new megastar in Daniela Melchior when he cast the relatively unknown actress as Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad, but could she be about to make the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 about to start shooting, Melchior has taken to social media to share photos of her undergoing some early prosthetics work, seemingly so she can be portrayed with no hair. As fans tend to do, there's now speculation all over social media that Gunn might have cast her to play Moondragon in the Marvel Studios threequel.
Absolutely nothing is confirmed, but this casting would make sense on a number of levels.
For starters, Moondragon is the daughter of Drax (there's a lot more to it than that, but trust us when we say it gets really complicated). She's also a powerful telekinetic and telepath, and has a history with the Infinity Stones, not to mention ties to the Guardians and Adam Warlock. Rumours have persisted for months that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will explore Drax's past and what happened to his family, so Moondragon could easily factor in.
Drax aside, there's a lot that could be done with the character, and the Guardians are down a couple of members now that Thor has returned to Earth and Gamora is...a Variant?! Time will tell, but Gunn did recently confirm that Will Poulter has been cast as Warlock, so perhaps he'll share more news soon.
For now, check out Melchior's photos below:
