TURNING RED: Check Out The Fun First Trailer And Poster For Pixar's Next Wacky Animated Adventure

Disney has released the first trailer and poster for Turning Red, the first Pixar movie since Onward to receive a theatrical release. This looks like a riot, and you can get a first look right here...

"Growing up is a beast."

That's the tagline for Turning Red, the latest movie from Pixar. Directed by Domee Shi, who won an Oscar for her 2018 short film Bao (which is fantastic and currently available to stream on Disney+), it stars young actress Rosalie Chiang, who lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is quite a lot of the time).

Sandra Oh voices Mei Lee's protective, if slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter - an unfortunate reality for the teenager.

Directed by Shi and produced by Lindsey Collins, Turning Red is set to be released on March 11, 2022. Unlike Soul and Luca, it's thought this movie will receive a theatrical release, which is good news when it's been reported that those working at Pixar have been left demoralised by the decision to have their last two titles debut exclusively on Disney+ for free and not on Premier Access.

Turning Red looks like it should be an absolute riot, and the premise is definitely classic Pixar. Visually, this looks more akin to previous movies from the studios as opposed to Luca (which some fans felt put a bigger focus on colour than detailed characters and animation).

So what if Bruce Banner was a teenage girl and the Hulk was a Red Panda? Sure, why not

@Waddles - then we'd need to see what that version of abomination is. It'd probably be adorable too.

Now this looks like Pixar to me, I haven’t felt the Pixar spark in a while but this seems special for some reason

I'm loving the art style & color palette for this. Cool to see Pixar taking so much inspiration from anime.

That teaser just sold me. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun and heart. My tear ducts will never be ready for a Pixar movie and I love it.

Love me some more Pixar. Hopefully better than Luca, which really didn’t do much for me and I felt was kind of meh.

This looks like another Pixar classic. Wonder why the poster implies it's set during 2002-2003. Gonna make me emotional if they have a timeskip to present day and the girl misses having her overbearing mom around. Bao already did that to me in less than 10 minutes.

@Waddles - Haha the costume departments will have a field day in that case. Frosted tips and tracksuits for everyone.

Heck the teacher in this trailer is already wearing a tracksuit
