OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: On their first official assignment – a covert recon mission to the venom-producing island of Santa Prisca – the team finds itself caught in a struggle between the deadly Bane and cult leader Kobra for possession of something far worse than they suspected.
BRANDON VIETTI: Greg and I are really excited about this episode in a particular, because I think this is the first episode that really delivers what we promised the show would be. This is a young superhero team on a covert ops mission behind enemy lines, and it has a different feel than your average show. This one really sets the tone for the series.
GREG WEISMAN: It’s going to establish how the team does business, who’s going to be in charge, what their M.O. is going to be and what tools they have in their toolkits, so to speak. This is a big sort of, “Hey, let’s get the ball rolling now” type of episode. We’ve had two episodes that introduced you to the characters, then we had an episode that sort of showed you the setting, and now it’s time to go and kick some ass.
SUPERHERO TOONIVERSE: Obviously we have the official synopsis, but what more can you reveal about the plot?
BRANDON VIETTI: One of the things we’ve pointed out is that realism is very important to us on this series. One facet of realism we tried to work in is that we’ve tries to come up with real science as much as we possibly can. We try to ground the science in this series on some sort of reality. Also, the repercussion of events in this episode will have an impact on the rest of the series.
GREG WEISMAN: Santa Prisca is an island that’s sort of its own rogue country that produces this super steroid called Venom, and Batman can tell from satellite imagery that the Venom factory is still in operation, but all supplies have been cut off. That has piqued Batman’s curiosity and he sends the team down there to find out what’s going on. They find themselves caught in a struggle between Bane, whose factory it is, and the cult of the Kobra. So this episode brings in a number of different enemies that they’ll be facing throughout the series.
