Like most of their straight-to-video ventures, the list of special features included a sneak peek for their next animated film Reign of the Supermen, that revealed the first snippets of footage from the movie.

@BlackBeltJones @backwardgalaxy- they actually took the time to build upon why you felt the world stop when he dies....... doomsday was brutal

@BlackBeltJones - Hey, Question. IM just in the middle of watching it. But I'm unsure of the Clark and Lois relationship, is it the same as it was in the comics at that time? I'm trying to ask the question without spoiling anything for peeps who haven't seen it yet.

@MarvelnDCLover - In the comics at the time, Lois had known Clark’s secret for years.

In this movie, she knows it for maybe a few days before he dies. Its a love story thats just beginning but is burned by sacrifice. I found this better than how the comic did it.

@BlackBeltJones - Thanks that's how I remembered it, that she had known for quite sometime before he got merc'd by Doomsday.

I always liked that superboy cames out from the test tube as a blank slate, instead of the original comic book origin
him being grown in a lab and then acting like a rad 90s kid makes no sense to me

@NicolausCopernicus - I'd never thought about this, but you make a really good point. Still, the cocky 90s version is my favorite, particularly as the Young Justice era wore on. I think even the Teen Titans version was cool, and make sense from a maturity standpoint. The version on the YJ TV show just felt like it took out the coolest parts, but made some interesting choices.

@NicolausCopernicus - Why not, it means he's absorbing what he see's first.Keep in mind he was being taught in the tube. He's not like Bizzaro.

The downside to blank slate is we get angst or "Am I real boy?".

If you like thisr story you should try to secure ‘SUPERMAN LIVES’ a three hour Full Cast Radio Drama From 1993.

It’s truely special.

Time Warner Audiobooks also in the 1990s did:

- Batman: Knightfall
- Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi
- Star Wars: Dark Lords of the Sith
- Star Wars: Dark Empire Parts 1 and 2

Fantastic Radio Casts with authentic sound and Music. Owned them all and they are a great have.

@IronGenesis - I have that on cassette stored away. Had it since the late 90s. I even got the Batman Knightfall and Star Wars The Dark Empire 1 & 2 and Empires End. Loved listening to those before sleep they always gave me awesome dreams. The Superman and Batman one’s are on YouTube. 👍

Heard good things about The Death of Superman but I'm in no rush to see it knowing that it could have been such a more faithful adaption. This two-parter should have been the next Dark Knight Returns.
OmegaBlack13
OmegaBlack13 - 7/24/2018, 10:43 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - It's pretty faithful. It has all the important parts and updates what it needs to in order to fit their current universe. Personally, I wouldn't really be too interested in a completely direct adaptation. The original story hasn't aged well, and it's mostly just a monster shows up, [frick]s up the current Justice League, which was mostly made up of minor characters at that point, then enters a slugfest with Superman. There's a reason it's not really held up alongside Red Son, Birthright, and For All Seasons by most people.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 -What comic movie is 100% faithful/exactly like the comics? As Omega said, it's pretty much the same story with the current main lineup of the Justice League, which includes Cyborg. Stop with the unnecessary nitpicking.

@Cheldo - Watchmen, minus the ending
THEDARKKNIGHT1939
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 7/25/2018, 10:05 AM
@OmegaBlack13 - Characters-wise, I understand their decision to replace the comic book characters with the original JL, as it would be confusing as hell to the audience why Booster Gold and Blue Beetle show up and Batman M.I.A. I'm mostly talking about the character designs and the universe this movie is set in. This should not be set in the new 52 continuity, the same world that has Damien Wayne and a Superman who is in love with Wonder Woman. Superman should not be wearing his new 52 costume along with the other characters. I wanted so badly for the movie to look look like this:

THEDARKKNIGHT1939
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 7/25/2018, 1:52 PM
@Cheldo - I didn't say it had to be 100% faithful. There's a huge difference between this comic's adaption and the ones before DC started placing every story in the New 52 continuity. With a story as big as The Death of Superman, I was expecting this:

Cheldo
Cheldo - 7/25/2018, 10:51 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - So you picked out scenes? The only thing from New 52 in the film iS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE Roster and the aftermath of Superman & Wonder Woman dating and some of the stuff with Hank Henshaw. Everything else is pretty much spot on. Doomsday lands in the ocean, starts destroying stuff upon coming ashore, runs through the Justice League, ending with Superman stopping him/"dying". Actually watch the film before making these kind of judgements.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939

They also need to stop saying they "learned from Superman: Doomsday" and are telling the story the correct way now. They're not.

Was the movie any good? I didn't get a chance to watch it completely, just the opening scene. The New 52/Phil Bourassa character designs really put me off.

@RickyleeSTF - It is saying much when compared to trash like Batman and Harley Quinn, by far the worst thing they ever did. But I agree, the last great movie Warner Animation did was probably Gods and Monsters. Since then…
