Director Tim Story (Fantastic Four) has been hard at work on a faithful adaptation for Tom and Jerry. While the crew have been sounding very optimistic since the movie's announcement, it is hard to ignore the hurdles the film will have to make to get people on board. With the shifting optimism regarding Detective Pikachu, Warner Bros. will be hoping for the same type of outcome.

The GWW, who has had a great track record with production dates, is reporting that Tom and Jerry is eyeing a June 1, 2019 start. This would put the cartoon adaptation on pace for its 2021 release.

Casting for the female lead has reportedly begun as well, and the outlet reckons the studio has shown interest in Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Zoey Deutch (Why Him?) and Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi).

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Remember seeing some leaked production art a while ago, where Tom and Jerry are portrayed through traditional animation like Roger Rabbit. Instead of this whole Alvin/Smurfs/Sonic angle.
Tim Story aint exactly got the best track record for entertaining movies though

Problem with Tom and Jerry, is that they’re not the type of characters you could really extend into an hour length film (and make it good). And if you put too much focus on the human character, then you just missed the point of Tom & Jerry. Add the fact that the Fantastic 4 director is doing this...

They are going to butcher my favorite cartoon ever. I would rather see a sequel to 1988's who framed Roger Rabbit. Long over due.

Tom and Jerry works for the very reason that it’s short cartoon sketches, I’m just not sure if it would work dragging it out to 90minutes? Granted I’ll keep an open mind but ya i’m not sure about this one?

Is it going to be 2D? I'd be slightly interested if that was the case. A 3D Tom & Jerry wouldn't work.
