"The Akira Project is a crowd-sourced, non-profit project meant to create a live action fan trailer of AKIRA, the renowned manga-turned-anime film from the late 1980′s; a stunning example of both mediums as art forms. While Hollywood has been working on a live-action Akira movie for a few years now, we, as fans, wanted to take a shot at making our own adaptation. A chance to stick as close to the source material as possible. A chance to do Akira Justice." - The Akira Project

Akira (1988) - Neo-Tokyo, 2019. The city is well on the way to rebuilding after World War III. The central characters, Kaneda and Tetsuo, two high school drop-outs, are members of a joy-riding motorcycle gang. In the opening scene, Kaneda and Tetsuo stumble upon a secret government project to develop telekinetic humans, apparently for use as weapons. Tetsuo learns of the existence of his 'peer' Akira, the project's most powerful subject, and determines to challenge him...

I wouldn't say that was a great trailer. The editing was a little odd, music didn't quite work and the vocals were flat.

BUT as a proof of concept for an Akira movie it was [frick]ing awesome. It did a beautiful job of translating the anime into live action. Loved the inclusion of the giant teddy bear.

I love the Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack. Makes me really hope that they bring that composer on for the live action movie in the works

Nice, I really wish we could get a live action done right but that is probably the closest we are ever going to get.

Great work considering it's a fan-made project!

But it's nothing a studio couldn't do better. Fans have an overbloated sense of self-worth. So what if they wanted Garret Hedlund for Kaneda? You people are so superficial. It's all about bragging rights. "Oh look at me, i watch japanese stuff so i'm better than you! DON'T CHANGE MY JAPANESE CHARACTER TO ANYTHING ELSE OR I WON'T BE ABLE TO BRAG ABOUT IT! WAAAH WAHH WAAAH!!"
