It's been a few years since Alita: Battle Angel was released, but hardcore fans are still clamouring for a sequel. Good thing both James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez are determined to make it happen!

2019's Alita: Battle Angel received a mixed response from critics, but fans of the original manga seemed to embrace the sci-fi adaptation, and have been campaigning for a sequel ever since.

Recently, producer Jon Landau confirmed that discussions have been taking place when he stated that "we'd love to circle back and do a sequel" to Alita, and it sounds like the two men who would be integral to a second film entering development are even more determined to get the ball rolling.

Director Robert Rodriguez and producer James Cameron took part in a dual-interview with Variety, and when the subject was brought up, Cameron urged his fellow filmmaker to swear a (virtual) blood oath to make Alita 2 a reality.

What are the chances of a follow-up actually happening? Honestly, pretty high! The first film didn't exactly set the box office alight, but it was a moderate success for 20th Century Studios (then Fox), and we have a feeling Cameron is going to have even more sway with the studio after Avatar: The Way of Water begins its run..

"Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past."

What did you guys make of Alita: Battle Angel? Would you be interested in a sequel? Be sure to let us know in the comments section.

Alita was and is the best live action Manga adaptation ever. The fans are rabid and demand a sequel, the cult following has grown since, and it ended on a juicy cliffhanger. After Cameron FINALLY releases The Abyss on something other than dvd, and the True Lies remaster Alita shall come.

Not happening any time soon.

Even if a movie gets a strong cult following, it will always be a long time before they would even consider a sequel

Unless you can cut the budget big time(Rodriguez probably could but not Cameron) no way they would take the chance

You would probably need wrath of khan level budget cuts

Alita was actually really solid and I loved the action in it, not to mention the cliffhanger at the end. Jim should let Pandora take a rest and push for more Battle Angel

If they get their miracle hopefully they incorporate more of the grit of the source material

They played Hugo a bit too safe,

A lot more effective than

One feels like the guy has been pushed over the edge, the other just kind of standard. Still a strong adaption but there is room to do better

Thoroughly enjoyed Alita: Battle Angel. I was hoping we'd be talking about the Alita trilogy films by now. I got my fingers crossed we will get an official announcement someday soon.

I'd rather 5 Alita movies than 5 Avatar movies.

"Blood Oath!" lol, that's super dope. I'm hyped.

Unless Cameron wants to put his own money into it, I don’t see it happening.

If Avatar 2 makes over a billion or close to 2 billion, James will be allowed to make whatever he wants.
