Alita: Battle Angel hasn't made much of an impact at the North American box office, and while it could recoup those losses internationally, the chances of a sequel seem unlikely at this stage
Even so, no matter what other faults the James Cameron produced release may have had, there's no denying that the visuals were incredible and they are highlighted in this new gallery of before-and-after VFX shots. Taking us back inside the Motorball arena, we also get to see how the city Alita calls home was brought to life.
"We were tasked with creating all of the ‘Pro’ Motorball team," explains Framestore's Nigel Denton-Howes. "The idea behind this was that some of the cyborgs were purpose built for racing, rather than being a mess of random machinery."
"This involved creating a lot more designed characters, with us frequently referencing racing motorbikes," he continues. "To execute this work we were given initial concepts as a kick off point which we then had a lot of freedom to change and modify to both work once moving, but also to clarify the design language a little more in 3D space."
