Ronja, The Robber's Daughter is Based on the children's fantasy book by noted author Astrid Lindgren, who also wrote Pippi Longstocking.

Ronja is a magical tale of A thief's daughter and her expoloration of the forest and the beasts around her. She also comes into contact with with a boy named Birk, who is a member of another rival bandit clan. Together, Birk and Ronja form a strong friendship and that is only the beginning.

The family friendly series will be narrated by The X-Files' Gillian Anderson, directed by Gorō Miyazaki (Up on Poppy Hill, Tales from Earthsea), and presented by Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle). 


 
The show first aired in Japan in 2014, was an instant hit and won the international Emmy award for "Best Kid's Animation." The streaming rights for the show were later picked up by Amazon. The show is free to watch for any Amazon Prime member. Ronja, The Robber's Daughter will debut on Amazon Video starting on January 27th.

So now this is gonna be anime, everyone is gonna think it's some new anime-thing, when in reality it's adaptation of beloved Swedish children novel by Astrid Lindgren from year 1981. It was read to me when I was a kid, so what I'm getting here to all you anime fans is basically:

Studio Ghibli stuff is usually awesome... I'll have to figure out how my Amazon Prime membership works.

@Chekkarma - while ajin is seriously one of my favorite new anime, the team behind it is no where close to studio ghibli.

While I'm sure there are a few animators that have worked for both, studio ghibli is on a whole different level. They're [frick]ing legends.

I dont there is a single Swede in my age that havnt seen that movie/series. Tried to get my kids to watch it but they were like, "dad, why does that flying bird have naked human breasts?"
Sweden was very weird in the 80s I guess..
