Cowboy Bebop Movie Still In Limbo

Cowboy Bebop Movie Still In Limbo

Keanu Reeves says the prospect of a live action version of Cowboy Bebop is not looking good as no progress has been made on the new script since last year..

Disappointing news for fans of the excellent Cowboy Bebop Anime. While speaking to MTV Keanu Reeves(who would play Spike Spiegel IF the movie happened) revealed that no progress has been made in retooling the script to fit the huge budgetary requirements of the studio.

When asked what progress has been made since the last official update almost a year ago the actor said..

"Nowhere, It hasn't been working. Every time [the script] comes back, it's still a gazillion dollars. Every time they try to pare it down, it's like, 'Well, that's not the film, what about the other kajillion?'"

Even if the script and budget issues were to sort themselves out soon, at 46 Reeves admits he might be a bit old for the role at this point..

"I'm getting too old to play Spike, maybe his older brother. Thorn! Maybe father of Spike!

I'm sure some fans will be happy that Reeves most likely won't end up playing Spike as his involvement was met with mixed reactions at the time. Although he wouldn't be my first pick, I think he might have pulled it off. Anyway, its a shame that the film is tied up in such red tape as it would no doubt make an epic sci-fi flick under the right director.

Anyway, lets console ourselves by listening to that awesome opening track by The Seatbelts!

Josh Hartnett for Spike. Even Ashton Kutcher would be better.

Good! I hate Cowboy Bebop. Never could get on to it. And at this point, they'll just end up getting Shia for Spike so might as well just trash the whole thing.

I agree about Keanu is too old to for Spike. This is one of my favorite animes and I am afraid it will just follow suit like the other animes they have ruined.

haha the jesus picture makes that video

I'm an Anime fan, but really an avid one. I never watched the series, but i saw the movie on tv the other day and it was pretty interesting. So I'm definitely gonna check it out. But just from that I know that Reeves would rape this flick. So no thanks.

And Constantine was a good movie. He a pretty good character,, but that character wasn't Constantine. I'd like a second one, but I'd prefer a reboot.

Fox is probably trying to micromanage this like they did DBE but thankfully since the creators of the series have a quality control clause.... It seems like that cant happen since the plus seems to be pulled altogether.

Remember, if Fox had free reign, they would have half-assed it and tried to make it anyway like they did DBE but they can't so..... HAHAHAHAHAHA This is what you get Tom Rothman! HAHAHAHA

Whether or not Keanu would make a good/bad spike, this news sucks big time, IMO. I'm a big bebop fan, and even though I agree Keanu is too old to play spike now, the fact that this seems to be his project to helm makes him an integral element to the movie being made. So, even if he isn't spike, he still has to be involved in the movie in some form. I do agree that Joseph Gordon Levitt, or Josh Hartnett would make a good Spike Spiegal, and they could really do it up with the sci-fi effects if they could get a managable budget.

I'd rather them try to do bebop rather than akira, that's just too much of a complicated storyline for a movie to effectively translate to someone unfamiliar with akira. bebop is much more easy going plot-wise, and easier to grab a non-fan of the anime. gotta keep hope alive.
