SPIDER-MAN 4: 6 Most Likely Characters Sadie Sink Could Be Playing In The Movie

Following the news that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is being lined up for a lead role in Spider-Man 4, we have some thoughts on who the actor is most likely playing in the No Way Home follow-up...

Following rumours Stranger Things star Sadie Sink was being eyed for the role of Jean Grey in Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot, the news broke yesterday that she's instead set to star in Spider-Man 4.

Regardless of whether it's a street-level story of an epic Multiversal adventure, we don't believe Sink is suiting up as Jean. It's also highly unlikely that she'll play the "real" Mary Jane Watson when the MCU has an MJ in Zendaya's Michelle Jones.

With that in mind, we're now taking a closer look at the six most likely possibilities for Sink's mystery MCU role. From longtime Spider-Man supporting characters to love interests and Multiversal Variants, there are some spectacular options.

You can see who we think Sink will play in Spider-Man 4 by clicking the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

6. Anna-May "Annie" Parker

Spiderling-Annie-Parker-copy

In the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe, Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson married and had a young daughter, Anna-May, who quickly developed spider powers of her own. She'd later take the names "Spiderling" and "Nesting."

With Marvel Studios' post-Avengers: Doomsday movies expected to be set on Battleworld, could Sadie Sink be playing Peter and MJ's daughter? Yes and no.

We think there's a chance the Stranger Things star has been cast as the daughter of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst's respective Variants of Peter and Mary Jane. That would be a fun twist and means Earth-616's Peter would be teaming up with "his" daughter from a different timeline.

5. Firestar

west-coast-avengers-1-variant-cover-features-a-fiery-new-look-at-firestars-updated-costume-ab212855

Introduced in NBC's Saturday morning cartoon Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Firestar teamed up with the web-slinger and Iceman, and soon became a firm fan favourite.

That led to her making the leap from the screen to the comic books (rather than the other way around) in the pages of 1985's Uncanny X-Men #193. The mutant hero has since helped found the New Warriors and remained friends with Peter.

Currently taking centre stage in Marvel Comics' latest take on the West Coast Avengers, Firestar is a character we could easily imagine Marvel Studios making use of as it looks to establish a new supporting cast for Spider-Man in the MCU.

4. Gwen Stacy

spgwengverse2022001-land-homage-0

Did you know every actress who has played Gwen Stacy in live-action - Spider-Man 3's Bryce Dallas Howard and The Amazing Spider-Man's Emma Stone - was a real-life redhead? So, yeah, don't discount Sink just because of her hair colour!

With Peter likely heading to college in Spider-Man 4, we'd say it's a pretty safe bet that he'll encounter Gwen. Marvel Studios already has plans for the character in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man where she'll suit up as Spider-Gwen, so could the same thing happen here?

Honestly, it's hard to say. The Multiverse being in play makes it more likely, though we'd be perfectly fine with Gwen also just being a new love interest or friend of Peter's as finally moves on from his high school days.

3. Carlie Cooper

carlie-cooper-from-spider-man-copy

A product of the "Brand New Day" era of storytelling, Carlie Cooper was one of Peter's more forgettable love interests but still a character Marvel Studios could improve during the transition from page to screen.

In the comics, Carlie works in the medical examiner's office as a forensic expert and plays a crucial role in many of Spidey's adventures. She became a trusted ally to the web-slinger and the red hair alone makes her a contender for Sink's mystery role.

It would take a talented actor to really make Carlie interesting and we have faith in The Whale star being able to do exactly that. Still, there are other, admittedly far more exciting, options...

2. Black Cat

Symbiote-Spider-Man-Crossroads-Vol-1-2-Textless-copy

Among those is Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. Black Cat. This character's live-action debut is long overdue and she deserves better than being put front and centre in one of Sony Pictures' lousy Avi Arad-produced efforts.

The world has forgotten Peter Parker exists and, according to multiple insiders, he's now fully embraced being Spider-Man. Cue Black Cat, an anti-hero who initially had zero interest in the man beneath the mask when she and Spidey started dating.

Not only would she encourage him to embrace his darker nature but this team-up would be a blast to finally see on screen. Does Sink have the right attributes to play Felicia? We think so, though some tweaks would likely be made.

1. Janine Godbe

Hallows-Eve-Vol-1-3-Sauvage-Variant-copy

We're guessing you didn't expect to see Janine Godbe here, but allow us to explain. In the comics, she was the love interest of Ben Reilly, Peter Parker's clone; abused as a child by her father, she killed him in self-defence and later ended up spending time in prison.

Janine was initially supposed to be a stand-in of sorts for MJ, and it would be kind of fun for Marvel Studios to head down a similar route by utilising this Mary Jane lookalike as Peter's new love interest on Earth-616.

Sink looks the part, but if the MCU's take on Janine followed the comics, then she could undergo a villainous transformation. As the twisted Hallows' Eve, she's capable of creating masks which change her appearance and give Janine different powers and effects.

@NoDaysOff - Variants of the same person.

The most famous one is Mayday Parker from MC2, but there's also May Parker from Earth X and Annie Parker from Renew Your Vows.

Emma Stone is a natural blonde who dyed her hair red rather then the other way around around though it would be kinda funny to get a second live action Gwen who is a natural redhead after Bryce Dallas Howard…

As of right now , I think it’s a toss-up between Firestar or Gwen Stacy given the rumors of the latter’s involvement in the film but we’ll see (I don’t see her as Black Cat).

Anna May or Mayday Parker could be interesting with her being the daughter of Tobey & Kirsten’s Peter & MJ but still weird since her and Holland aren’t that far apart in age.

Carlie is a possibility though and Janine could be interesting if she’s a love interest for Peter so seeing her head down a villainous path would be something fresh & new.

I'm going with Firestar. A movie that re-imagines and modernizes that iconic trio from the cartoon would be exciting to see and also another taste of the mutant element becoming more present in the MCU as they transition into the Mutant Saga. And I could also see Peter having a sorts of tug-of-war between staying on the side of good/lawful with his new friends of Iceman and Firestart while struggling with the temptation of just having fun sometimes with someone free spirited like Black Cat.

Throwing in new characters into that mix would make it more exciting.

I could see Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey only under the mobile that she could help maybe unlock some people's minds so that they remember who Peter is. But beyond that I'm not so sure, it's a weird and first-time approach to make those two become friends.

But yeah I'm sticking with Firestar. Heck the movie itself could be called "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends."

@NinnesMBC - I like it

Makes me wonder if we get Bobby then in this?.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 3/13/2025, 12:40 PM
@TheVisionary25 - We definitely should get Bobby in this if we're bringing in Angelica/Firestar here. It's almost a given, you don't introduce her and have her hang around with Peter if Bobby isn't nowhere nearby. Would feel like a missed opportunity for the dynamics and also enhancing the mutant/X-Men element. They kill two birds with one stone here.

@TheVisionary25 - Yes, it has a lot of potential elements to be the most exciting entry yet for MCU Spidey. Adapting something from the past that hasn't been done in like forever with a modern take and a original story. Here Peter is no longer being shown the ropes nor has mentor figures since he's his own person in this team that listens to him (they all listen to each other, it's a democracy) plus he gets to show his experience after being an Avenger. Nothing will replace Ned and MJ but it's also more interesting that his new friendships are both his friends out the costumes and teammates in the field.

Hopefully that's something close to what Feige is trying to cook with Destin Daniel Cretton.

@NinnesMBC - sounds good to me!!.

The first 3 films were Peters coming of age story/arc of maturation so he’s grown up a bit now atleast so it would be cool to see him be the more experienced hero now.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 3/13/2025, 1:11 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Yes it's now when it'd be a good time to show how much he's learned ever since he was on Tony's Civil War team and was made an Avenger and addressing the other more experienced heroes as "sir" so showing how he is on equal ground on a new team with people of his age is the right way to start this. He's learned all he could from the past films about responsability (Homecoming) and trust (Far From Home) that can be used here if Black Cat is someone that "disrupts" not just his current life but also his new team and the friendships within.

@NinnesMBC - Hell yes! As a kid who grew up in the 80’s I would totally get behind a Spiderman movie inspired by this cartoon. And you could even introduce more X-men characters near the end!
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 3/13/2025, 1:26 PM
@China1975 - In my case I was more of a 90-ish kid who discovered that cartoon on Fox Kids before seeing the 90s animated show but that team up always stayed with me because by having the 3 of them you saw them take on multiple different enemies that weren't just restricted to Spider-Man's rogue gallery. Heck even their final sequence of their intro shows them charging at none other than Doctor Doom. Small world huh?

Yeah they definitely could tease more X-Men showing up in the end, be it post-credits or even throughout the movie with references and nods to the growing mutant population. Something like them saying that Peter really should let them take them to their "foster manor home" and how he'd fit right in.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 3/13/2025, 1:39 PM
@NinnesMBC - I’m liking this idea more and more , good job man haha.

Idk if we’ll get her suited up in this but then again we don’t know what Spidey’s status has been post NWH he could have already met them by then
Superfriends1975
Superfriends1975 - 3/13/2025, 1:54 PM
@NinnesMBC - YES, YES, YES...make it happen!!!!!!!!!!! One of favorite cartoons as a kid. I still watch it today. Perfect transition into the Mutant Saga.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 3/13/2025, 1:55 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Thank you! :D

That will depend on how they want to handle the pacing of the movie or at which point they want to start it. We could see a build up of Peter meeting them, learning about their powers, suiting up and then struggling with the Black Cat out of the bag situation or like it was in Homecoming we jump right in with Peter in the middle of his new Amazing Friends activity and we get a rundown of who these new friends are and how they helped him not get too absorbed in being Spider-Man and also get too depressed. I think the latter would work better, to show us that Peter is no longer THAT alone as when we last saw him at the end of No Way Home and that he's been able to rebound.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 3/13/2025, 2:01 PM
@Superfriends1975 - Glad my vision and predictions got you hyped. Seems that we all here actually share a love for that cartoon so seeing it be adapted on the big screen would be the right recipe for success. And yeah it'd be a clever way to continue the transition into the Mutant Saga.
Timerider
Timerider - 3/13/2025, 2:35 PM
@China1975 - agreed, same here. The X-Men are supposed to show up just 2 movies away from Spider-man 4. What ever happens in Fantastic Four and Avengers Doomsday might make it possible to get Firestar and introduce the X-Men.

I don’t see Iceman showing up until the post credit scene, if at all. We still have Secret Wars to deal with first.

Ok I was leaning more towards her being Gwen but if they're sticking with the multiverse stuff and want more of a strong connection to No Way Home I actually really like the idea of her being Peter and MJ's daughter from the Raimiverse, whether that's Annie-May, Mayday, or some other version/amalgamation. Gives it that connection to NWH Sony seem to be insistent upon since they're apparently pushing for Tobey and Andrew to return, but does something new with it by giving us a better idea of what their lives are like in their own respective universes and how the different Peters' lives could be on different trajectories if they explore more of their differences; like Raimiverse Peter having a family, TASM Peter finally working through his trauma and trying to figure out how to move forward in his personal life and balance that with being Spider-Man, and then Sacred Timeline Peter being alone after the events of NWH and having to navigate life without anyone to look to for guidance for the first time.

I'm thinking Carlie Cooper, although Firestar would be cool too. Since it's supposedly a multiverse story though, what if it's Mayday Parker from the Raimiverse?
