DETECTIVE PIKACHU Could Lead To The Launch Of A Pokemon Cinematic Universe

There's an awful lot of excitement surrounding Detective Pikachu and one of the movie's producers has now made it clear that if it proves to be a hit, then we can expect even more Pokemon adventures...

The Pokemon Company is extremely protective over the franchise, but if what we've seen from Detective Pikachu is any indication, these creatures are in good hands with Legendary Pictures.

While many fans are anxious to see the likes of Ash Ketchum, Misty, and Brock on the big screen, this movie is going to focus on a relatively obscure video game version of Pikachu along with some newly created human characters. However, should Detective Pikachu succeed, then it sounds like we can expect this world to expand in a major way.

"[Pokemon is] such a rich universe," explains producer Ali Mendes. "There are so many ways you can go inside of it. We're trying to get the first movie right, and then once we've done that, we'll see where we go from there, but absolutely. There are a lot of opportunities."

"Even the Pokemon themselves, there are eight hundred of them," he continued. "We're going to have a lot of them in [Detective Pikachu], but we want to play with all of them at some point." That's a pretty bold claim but one which would obviously be a lot of fun to see happen, as every Pokemon out there has its fanbase (personally, I can't wait to see more of Charizard in action).

Nobody knows what a cinematic universe is anymore. Most of the ones that have come out these last few years are just a series of movies with one or two spin-offs here and there. That's it.

Everyone wants the money that come with a shared universe yet no one is willing to put the legwork and patience to make one.

WB has driven a lot of Ips in the ground lately. DC, Lego, LOTR, Wizarding World. Something tells me they are gonna do the same thing with Pokemon.

If they can do it as successfully as Fantastic Beasts then I can suspend my skepticism a while longer.

Could be amazing honestly, something like;
• Detective Pikachu
• Detective Pikachu 2
• Mewtwo Spin-off
• Detective Pikachu 3
• Red/Blue
• Mystery Dungeon

It's going to be hard to make a compelling series of films based on Pokemon seeing as the shows have always been toy commercials for the cards and games.

@Nightwing1015 - someone made a compelling movie out of LEGOs, anything can de made into a good movie if you put effort into it.

You know what would be cool? If they had a bunch of separate stories in various Pokemon regions, but in each a 'legendary trainer' is referenced. Tell all sorts of fun stories based on different aspects of the games and anime, but have it culminate in 2 films, a Red/Blue 'origin' story, and then a Gold/Silver movie where the antagonist reaches the peak of Mt Silver and faces an older Red.

Not Ash. Never Ash.

Also, while Mewtwo is great, I would LOVE to see the some of the other regional legendary mons. Live-action Lugia, Ho-Oh, Giratina, Palkia, Dialga, Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem, Xerneas, or Yveltal - Oh my Arceus, it could be so cool!
