The Pokemon Company is extremely protective over the franchise, but if what we've seen from
Detective Pikachu is any indication, these creatures are in good hands with Legendary Pictures.
While many fans are anxious to see the likes of Ash Ketchum, Misty, and Brock on the big screen, this movie is going to focus on a relatively obscure video game version of Pikachu along with some newly created human characters. However, should Detective Pikachu succeed, then it sounds like we can expect this world to expand in a major way.
"[Pokemon is] such a rich universe," explains producer Ali Mendes. "There are so many ways you can go inside of it. We're trying to get the first movie right, and then once we've done that, we'll see where we go from there, but absolutely. There are a lot of opportunities."
"Even the Pokemon themselves, there are eight hundred of them," he continued. "We're going to have a lot of them in [Detective Pikachu], but we want to play with all of them at some point." That's a pretty bold claim but one which would obviously be a lot of fun to see happen, as every Pokemon out there has its fanbase (personally, I can't wait to see more of Charizard in action).
