POKEMON RED AND BLUE Live-Action Adaptations Are Rumored To Be In Development

In a very smart business move, Legendary Pictures is rumored to be developing live-action adaptations of POKEMON RED AND BLUE, riding on the anticipated success of DETECTIVE PIKACHU.

When Pokemon: Detective Pikachu's first trailer dropped, fans were ecstatic. No one expected the seamless blend and world building the promotional material provided. Not only was the quirky, fun tone connecting with audiences, but the expansive world it teased was getting great word of mouth as well. The opening minute of the trailer briefly touched on the life of being a Pokemon Trainer, and it seems as though we will be getting an in-depth look at that life if the latest Pokemon rumor proves true.

According to We Got This Covered, Legendary Pictures is in the early stages of developing a film based on Pokemon Red and Blue, both of which were initially released in 1996. The adaptations are based the original games the brought Pokemon to life, and the catalyst that turned them into the cultural staple they are today.

If this is true, speculation points to a Rocky-esque narrative about an underdog making his way towards the top, exploring the Kanto region and the first generation of Pokemon. To be fair, isn't that the Pokemon movie we've wanted all along? If this were to come through and done correctly it would be a massive crowdpleaser for audiences, leaving a ton of potential for Legendary's PCU (Pokemon Cinematic Universe.)

wouldn't it be funny if you could get the home release of the movie, and depending if you get the Red or Blue version you get different CG Pokemon in the background of certain scenes.

@Spidey91 - A chase variant DVD? Odd...

@FlixMentallo21 - I mean, the games were like that, some Pokemon were exclusives to each version of the game. that's why they encouraged trading through the GB's link cable.

@Spidey91 - I know, I know—I just think it’s odd to apply the chase variant method to DVD’s.

Pokemon yellow was superior. I still have pokemon yellow and crystal on my gameboy emulator.

@MyCoolYoung - I liked Yellow/Crystal better as well - as opposed to Red/Blue or Gold/Silver.

@L0RDbuckethead - yup. I really didn't like red and blue animation. I had pokemon silver I liked it better than Gold but crystal is superior to both.

@MyCoolYoung - Yeah, Yellow/Crystal kinda gave you the best of both worlds. I have really enjoyed the "re-master" of Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu as well. It's great on the Switch and everyone in my family loves playing it.

@MyCoolYoung @L0RDbuckethead

The problem was Red (the one I got) came out first. It was so original and impactful. I played that thing nonstop and loved every second of it! It's what led to my obsession of everything Pokémon including the anime in 1999. When Yellow came out afterwards out I had to get it (even though it was pretty much the same game). I enjoyed the improvements and its connection to the cartoon, but the original is still where my memories go back to.

@L0RDbuckethead - sorry for the super late response but I hadn't heard of that. I'm going to have to invest in a switch and get that.

@DevarikaWoulf - see for me, I got yellow first and I loved how Pikachu could trail you like the show. I never got red or blue. my friend had both though

I don't know how I feel about this.

On one hand, this means Legendary has confidence in Detective Pikachu and it's early screenings probably were well-received.

On the other hand, I'm not sure about the Red/Blue story being a worthwhile story for a feature-length film.

We'll see.

@L0RDbuckethead - I don't know, gameplay aside, the story is pretty much every sports movie ever. underdog starts from scratch, wants to follow his/her dream, fights his/her way to the top, obligatory montage ensues, etcetera.
