Susan Sarandon Comments on Mom Racer

She’s been awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress in a movie, and nominated four other times, and is definitely one of the queens of the silver screen. Now, Susan Sarandon turns her attention to more trivial pursuits, with her latest movie Speed Racer.

Set for release in May of 08, Speed Racer is the story of a young race car driver as he attempts to obtain glory, with the help of his family and the Mach 5, the advanced car created by his father. The live action film to be directed by the Wachowski brothers features Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox and John Goodman, among others.

Sarandon was open about her part in the film, and apparently seemed to relish the opportunity.

"It's the first time I've ever really worked with a chimpanzee," said Sarandon of the live action flick. "It was definitely just a lesson in surrendering to a world that we couldn't even really comprehend because the way that it was being filmed and everything was so extraordinary. I have a tiny part. I mean, I'm there all the time but I serve pancakes."

When remembering the cartoon, and the very 60’s hair flip Mom Racer was famous for, Sarandon had the following to say. "Did you see the cartoon? That's it. It's wild. I can't even begin to tell you about Speed Racer. The Wachowski Brothers are really brilliant and really fun and big hearted and I loved working with them."

"We play it naturally. It's not exaggerated. We're all playing it naturally but the whole world around us is crazy. Speed Racer, we're playing it kind of for real in this world that's just kind of like The Jetsons meets I don't know what. It's very, very bright. Very infused."
