In its third weekend of release, Beauty and the Beast slipped to the #2 spot, but which new film took home first place? In a stunning win, Boss Baby beat initial expectations to earn $49 million domestically, while Ghost in the Shell came in third, with $19 million. Rounding out the top 5 were Power Rangers, with $14.5 million and Kong: Skull Island, which earned another $8.8 million.

While Boss Baby and Ghost in the Shell were making their debuts, Beauty and the Beast now totals $395.5 million across three weeks, while Power Rangers has earned $65.1 million in two weeks and King Kong has accrued $147.8 million in four weeks.

The international box office could tell a different story as North American audiences have become a little more discerning over the last few years as critic reviews and aggregate scores have returned to prominence. Stay locked into CBM for a box office report for worldwide totals.

@NicolausCopernicus - It was okay. I took my kid to see it just because there was nothing coming out that's suitable for a toddle for a number of weeks. I think a lot of parents were thinking the same thing.

@StarlordsDad - there goes other possible anime adaptations aside from the ones already being made, like Alita Battle Angel.
well, at least Power Rangers will pave the way for Voltron and possibly Robotech.

@tylerzero - Copied from a comment below:

Saw it just once. I'm a big anime fan and that includes the original GITS.

Now, as of my first viewing (I's possible the movie improves after multiple viewings) I was dissapointed. I am 100% sure the general audiences will NOT like this. In an attempt to be "faithful", it seems like Sanders ended up neutering the movie. To me, he is solely the one to blame here. The script wasn't bad,the new ideas were good and ScarJo does deliver. But the choices he made when it comes to pace and overall "feel" for each scene are very uninspired in my opinion.

Anyway, I will give it another shot, sure, but people WILL sleep during this movie.

That's too bad. Everyone wanted to throw a fit about this movie and now this will stop studios dead in their tracks who had plans going forward with properties that could be similar to this.
