We got our first brief clip from Ghost in The Shell the other day, and now we have some new TV spots for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic anime.

The promos all feature a few snippets of previously unseen footage, including some kick-ass action shots of Scarlett Johansson's vengeance-fueled cyborg, The Major, taking down her enemies. There's also an intriguing new glimpse of the the villainous (or is he?) Kuze, who'll be played by former Boardwalk Empire alum Michael Pitt.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Rupert Sanders is at the helm of Ghost in the Shell, which also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk, and is set for release on March 31, 2017.

@auditore - That's my biggest worry. The hollywood "hero" factor.

GITS is not totally centered in the Major's story, they could blow the whole thing going that way.

@auditore - It's not an inherently terrible idea to focus the movie on her origins (they've been pretty vague and occasionally sinister-feeling in the anime I've seen), but yeah... it'll suck if the whole thing becomes about some conspiracy about how she was made. Especially if they spell it out too explicitly.

Makes GitS more generic that way. But if the movie is still good otherwise maybe it could mean a sequel where they do something like a laughing man or what-have-you.

I never liked the idea of this and the cast and with the more they reveal, I'm liking it even less.
