When it was revealed that Evangeline Lilly would be suiting up as The Wasp in Marvel's Ant-Man sequel, the response was overwhelmingly positive. However, the internet being the internet means that people always have to complain about something and now the character's costume is coming under fire. Why? Well, it's being torn apart on social media for featuring some sexual imagery.
Well, perceived sexual imagery. The new still released by Disney gives us a proper look at Hope Van Dyne's suit but fans are tearing into it because if you look at it upside down, the middle portion appears to take on the appearance of a penis. In fairness, you can sort of see it and it is a little strange that it's essentially pointing down at The Wasp's crotch but to think it's a deliberate decision by Marvel and its team of concept artists is more than a little ridiculous and arguably makes zero sense.
Needless to say, Marvel won't be able to redesign the costume and this stage but it will be interesting seeing if it changes moving forward because of this. The phallic nature of the suit is making headlines but hasn't really hit mainstream media so it could end up flying under the radar and not really having much of an impact on the studio. Either way, it remains an issue for many comic book fans!
