Edgar Wright Still Hasn't Seen ANT-MAN; Says It Would Be Like Watching His Ex-Girlfriend Having Sex

Edgar Wright recently spoke about why he ultimately decided to walk away from Marvel's Ant-Man, and now he reveals that he still hasn't actually seen Peyton Reed's film - and doesn't intend to, either.

Edgar Wright recently shared some new details on what ultimately led to him giving up the Ant-Man director's chair, and during a new interview with Uproxx the Baby Driver helmer revealed that not only has he not watched the movie, but he hasn't even seen the trailer.

Wright used an interesting analogy to articulate his feelings on the matter, and says the closest he came to even seeing any footage was when someone began watching Ant-Man on a plane:

“I haven’t seen it and I haven’t even seen the trailer. It would kind of be like asking me, ‘Do you want to watch your ex-girlfriend have sex?’ Like, ‘No, I’m good.’ The closest I came to it was that somebody sitting near me on a flight was watching it, and when I saw that the person sitting next to me was going to watch the movie, I thought, hmm, maybe I’m going to do some work on my laptop.”

Given the amount of time and energy (he worked on Ant-Man on-and-off for 8 years) Wright put into his vision of the Marvel flick, it's hardly surprising that he feels this way - but how did the passing of the reigns go when Peyton Reed stepped in to replace him? Well, it turns out there wasn't one, exactly.

“I have not spoken to him at all,” said Wright when asked about the transition. “I think the last communication I had with him is I said, 'Please don’t just use my storyboards,' and then I’ve never spoken to him anymore ever since.”

Baby Driver hits theaters on June 28, while Reed's Ant-Man & The Wasp is scheduled for a July 6, 2018 release.

@TheFamousJMC - I do not blame him and yet I do not blame Marvel for cutting ties.

@Hulksmash77 - He is such a pansy. He took years to work on it and wanted it to stand alone. His issue was with Feige wanting it to exist in a shared universe and Wright felt he couldn't make the movie "HE" wanted to make by making it exist with the Avengers.

That is why the script needed to be rewritten. He should stop bitching about it and man up and say "I was mad Marvel didn't let me make a film that doesn't exist in the MCU."

@SonOfAGif - @SonOfAGif - True. The only reason Marvel, an independent studio at the time, committed to making Ant-Man was that Wright pitched them in 2006. Feige gave Wright several extensions on development, during which the latter directed other films. After Marvel bent over backward to give Wright the time he said he needed, he refused to compromise with the studio. By that time, Marvel had a release date set and millions invested in the film, so it had to salvage the project and get it in theaters on a tight schedule. If anyone has the right to be bitter about that situation, it's Feige.

@Skrull - And Feige for the most part has been humble and moved on. It's been directors like Alan Taylor, Patty Jenkins, and Edgar Wright who take is so personal.

Marvel Studios is a business with a plan set into motion. They hire directors and writers to deliver their vision. When they don't comply they find others.

You have Jon Favreau, James Gunn, The Russo Brothers, Taika Waititi, Peyton Reed, Jon Watts, and so on praising Marvel Studios for the freedom and respect they have given them. So how is it three directors don't see it that way?
