AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Star Patrick Wilson Teases Sequel's Place In DCEU Multiverse And Crazy VFX

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Patrick Wilson has dropped some intriguing hints about the sequel's place in the DC Extended Universe, promising fans an experience like nothing they've ever seen before.

Aquaman was one of Warner Bros.' biggest DC Extended Universe hits with mostly positive reviews (it holds 65% on Rotten Tomatoes) and a whopping $1.148 billion at the worldwide box office. It's no surprise, then, that filmmaker James Wan has been enlisted to continue telling Arthur Curry's story in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

We've seen very little from the sequel, but star Partick Wilson (Orm/Ocean Master) shared a few tantalising details about the film while promoting Roland Emmerich's Moonfall

"You take those things that you think people responded to, even if it was, 'Oh my God, can you believe they did that?'" the actor told Collider. "Yeah, we did that. Now we're going to do more of that. I think we found our niche. I think DC has found their way to understand where each movie can fit, even in a Multiverse, which is so overused now, as a term."

"Clearly the movie went beyond a fanboy demographic because it made whatever; billion dollars, right? So that affords you a freedom of, 'You know what? Let's keep it fun. Let's make it fun,'" Wilson continued. "We push all the fighting and the stunts. We've used crazy techniques between us and The Flash that have never been used before."

It's interesting that Wilson highlights both Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash as having "crazy techniques" we haven't seen on screen before, and we can't help but wonder if he spent some time on that movie's set (he does unexpectedly reference the Multiverse). As for what fans can expect from the movie, he added: "[I'm] obviously not going to get into that. But James loves to pick and choose from his own mind and comics and how we bring in certain elements."

Warner Bros. still has The Batman, Black Adam, and The Flash to promote, so it could be a while before we get a trailer for the Aquaman follow-up. It should be with us by the summer, though.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to be released in theaters on December 16. Check out our interview with Moonfall director Roland Emmerich and Wilson's co-star, John Bradley, below:

Aquaman was dumb af and I won't watch it again, but it was a HUGE fun in the cinema. I really liked how they embraced the cheesy side of the source material, it was kinda the modern day Flash Gordon. Also the action was fantastic. So Im pretty hyped for something similar.

I think Aquaman had some excellent action scenes. I love the fighting, the camera work, and the Trench scene was fantastic. This sounds promising, if only for a nice visual treat.

He's definitely right the Multiverse is already starting to feel like an overused term.

The first Aquaman was so fun because it just did it's own thing, so I don't hope the whole Multiverse concept is going to play too big of a role in the sequel.

I’m guessing the whole Aquaman and Ocean Master dynamic will end up like Thor and Loki.

The most important question on all our minds is,
Are they going to use more pitbull songs in this sequel!?

The Multiverse as a concept is overused right now. However, the difference between Marvel and DC is that Marvel uses it to have some fun (the Loki show, multiple Spider-Men, a presumably wacky Doc Strange sequel), whereas DC uses it as a clean up tool for all their mess. Not that I'm complaining. I'm glad we get Keaton back in addition to Battinton.

I really liked Aquaman but the script was dumb so I hope the writing and pacing are better. The movie was saved my the directing, special effects, and the charisma of Wilson and Momoa.

I love the 1st movie and I'm hyped AF for this one. They need a tighter script and to cross their pray to Davros Heard has become better over time.

Obligatory:

"Yeah, we did that. Now we're going to do more of that.“

Oh no, one of the worst things a sequel can do is simply more of what seemed to draw the most excitement. That was part of WW84’s problem. The best sequels build on their predecessors by keeping the core of what made the first film work (usually the main character and their core relationships) and pulling some sort of reversal that forces the character to deal with new challenges. If this is going to be more of the same or the same but bigger, then it’s not going to be as impactful.

Visually it’ll look cool but if it’s more of the same from the last film? Pass
